I know this is going to be a touchy subject and i am probably going to get some negative comments, but does anyone or has anyone vaped while pregnant? I smoked with my last baby as i just could not kick it baby was small and they have put me on aspirin to thin my blood so that baby is bigger this time. I was also very sick last time all the way through so i sort of think baby will off been small for those 2 reasons. I am vaping a low nicotine, 6mg this time but i worry the vape may stop the aspirin working properly. Although the consultant didn't say that they just said they would refer me to smoking lady. Which I've been waiting for since 12 weeks. Now 18 weeks. I have cut my self shaving and a bled a lot so i think its working and bruise easily. So i think its working just wondered if theres anyone else the same?

I was told it was fine to carry on vaping. The cessation team will put you on nicotine replacement for actual smoking so I don't see how vaping would be any different.

SamanthaH92 · 24/02/2018 15:59

iatethepies what stregnth were you using? I did manage to stop for a few days but unfortuently started again.

I was using 6mg, you could try and reduce to 3mg and then 0mg. I understand how hard it is to break tha habit though

SamanthaH92 · 24/02/2018 16:15

Did you reduce yours? Was everything ok with your baby? I am not sure when the smoking women will be in touch but in my last pregnancy they didn't get in touch till 30 weeks x

I vaped during my last pregnancy and intend on vaping through this one. I don't get on with patches etc and cold turkey never lasts for me. So this is the happy medium. I have reduced my nicotine intake and will continue on a low dose.

SamanthaH92 · 24/02/2018 16:20

Can i ask what mg you are on?

I went down to 3mg. Baby was fine, full term and a healthy 7lb4. I never got on with the nicotine patches in my previous pregnancy as they made me very sick and dizzy. I just need to kick the habit completely now which is proving much harder than I thought when I switched from cigs with ease

There are a couple of PDF downloads on this page (scroll down to 'E-cigarettes in pregnancy infographic') - the one meant for midwives has far more useful information in it. Stop smoking services can support you even if you're using an ecig.

in my last pregnancy they didn't get in touch till 30 weeks

This is absolutely shocking!

You can refer yourself if they are taking too long. Find your local service here.

SamanthaH92 · 24/02/2018 16:46

pencilsinspace thank you i found that very useful. I am going to book a midwife appointment and see if they can refer me any quicker. I am going to attempt to quit again just finding it more harder than i thought although saying that after almost 8 years of heavy smoking i thought i would never stop that. Patches to also made me feel sick and made my arm red and itchy x

Vaping, especially such a low nicotine dose is so so much better for you then smoking! You should consider reducing to 3mg though but don't beat yourself up at all. You have completely changed your life by stopping smoking. My brother is a molecular cell biologist who works at Oxford university and he says that although they haven't studied vapings long term effects, they absolutely cannot see on a low nicotine dose how it can possibly be bad for you when it is just water vapour.

You are doing so well not to smoke, never go back, even if you vape until the day you die it is a million times better for you then burning and inhaling.

And nicotine is not actually harmful to you in small doses anyway. Though of course 0mg are an option Smile

potteryprincess thank you. I am on my last bottle of liquid so i intend to try and quit after that. I just don't want to start smoking again!

Well i bought another bottle of juice and now I'm kicking my self. I still haven't heard from the smoking lady at my hospital. I'm so worried about if i am damaging the baby. But i don't want to quit this and go back to actually smoking. I am nearlly 20 weeks and don't really feel baby move although for 3 days at 17 weeks i did. Had heartbeat cheacked at 18 weeks and all was ok. So that makes me worry more too. I did get a letter for an appointment for infant feeding and diet so surly that should involve smoking? X

@SamanthaH92 I found out I was pregnant last week and have cut out vaping entirely. My OH likes to sit next to me and vape away however! There are a lot of studies out there that show that if you are severely anxious throughout your pregnancy, that can have an effect on you, and of course your baby. I think you have to think about what is worse.. the anxiety of going cold turkey, craving nicotine, thinking about vaping 24/7 when you should be thinking about your pregnancy... or having a vape occasionally throughout the day, reducing that anxiety and likely putting your baby at a much smaller risk? It's up to you but I don't think you should beat yourself up too much. If you were smoking cigarettes you'd probably get some very different answers!

SamanthaH92 · 04/03/2018 09:24

My problem is i worry A LOT it has got worse since the birth of my first DD. I know this is better than smoking but i still feel guilty and then i will stress my self out and vape more. Its a cycle really x
