Moving back to UK at 32 weeks pregnant

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with registering their pregnancy late? I’m currently living abroad and will be moving back to the UK when I’m 32 weeks pregnant. At the moment I’m 19 weeks with my second DC and getting checkups in the country I’m living in, it’s a fairly medically backward country so I’m trying to stick to the usual NHS schedule of appointments.

Has anyone moved to the UK while they’re pregnant? Or maybe moved areas and had to change doctors? Any advice is very welcome!

I'd check you are entitled to NHS healthcare first as it appears to be dependant on residency.

I moved back to the UK when 24 weeks pregnant with twins.

Somethings to notes:

You're not entitled to free NHS treatment in case it's a permanent return to the UK
The Drs, midwives were all fine with me but I did get a letter asking me to prove my entitlement to free NHS treatment which wasn't an issue.

There will likely be a period where you're out of the system.
I needed proof of address before I could register with the GP, I then had to wait for the GP to refer me to the midwives and then wait again for this appointment. For around 3 weeks I wasn't being seen. Fine for a routine pregnancy but not so good if you've any issues.

They may want to redo all your bloods etc. I'd been living in a country with excellent medical facilities and my ObGyn had given me all my notes but the UK Drs didn't want to trust any of it so where possible it was redone.

Argh, not entitled unless not in case. Sorry!

Thanks everyone, some good advice here.

It will be a permanent move and I’ll be moving back into my old house so will register with my old GP surgery too. I’d not thought of registering before I went back to get the ball rolling so I will drop them an email and see if it’s possible - thanks Haribo!

I needed to see a doctor as an emergency when I was visiting the UK with my last pregnancy and couldn’t get them to class me as a non resident even though I told several different people and was happy to pay for it, very frustrating!

Yeah I did this with my first baby (back from Italy to the UK). It was absolutely fine, not a problem at all. Had to have my bloods repeated which was a pain, but that was it.
