Tips on how to get through the sickness stage

Im struggling with the constant feeling sick. I've tried ginger biscuits, eating little and often and eating just plain food but nothing seems to ease the feeling of constantly wanting to throw up.
I'm finding it hard to hide how ill I am feeling whilst trying to carry on as normal, working full time etc without people keep asking me what is wrong.
The thought of at least another 6 weeks of feeling like this makes me feel quite miserable.
Please give me your tips on how you got through this stage

I've vomited almost every day from 7 weeks until 13 weeks, now 13+2 and haven't been sick for a couple of days which is making me feel more positive! Some days unfortunately nothing much would help. But fizzy drinks have been my saviour. I don't usually drink them but I've had a lot of zero-sugar type fizzy drinks as the fizz took the edge off.

People also say sniffing fresh lemons works for nausea? Hope you feel better soon. If it's bad see your doctor.

Eat as soon as you wake up and ice lollies all day every day! I had something like a fruit pastille lolly if I get sick. I'd eat one in the car on the way to work! It helps so much! Flat coke is also fantastic and add extra ice and suck that for the same ice lolly effect!

I get nausea quite a lot and I find that just crunching up ice cubes helps sometimes. I know I'm weird Grin but it's a way of getting hydrated I suppose. Hope you feel better soon OP

You might not want to do this but I told the two people I share an office with at 7 weeks as I was so sick and had to go home at 4 every day/wasn't doing my usual extra stuff. It made me feel better that they knew and I wasn't worrying they were thinking I was slacking. On a practical front, not much helped! Sorry! I used to throw up between 6.30 and 7.30pm everyday - sometimes I brought it on deliberately by brushing my teeth - that helped me but was gross!

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 24/02/2018 19:16

You have my sympathies- mine last from week 5 to week 15 then was over. You'll get there!

ForeverHopeful21 · 24/02/2018 21:31

Another one here who stocked up on ice lollies.

I also kept a stash of mints and minty chewing gum on me at all times. If I was out and about it really helped keep the nausea at bay.

Although you feel lousy, keeping busy helps. Sometimes it was the last thing I felt like doing, but being in bed or lying on the sofa just made me more aware of how ill I felt.

I know its awful but hopefully it will pass soon and it'll be a distant memory.

Emma145 · 24/02/2018 22:33

I agree with the ice lollies. Mine was alot worse if I let myself get hungry so keep lots of little things to snack on. Anything greasy made mine worse too. Hope it stops for you soon don't miss that stage at all!

VickyBHF · 24/02/2018 22:35

Chewing gum - really helped with my nausea

ER1992 · 24/02/2018 22:43

Thanks for the tips. Will definitely get some ice lollies... not ideal this time of year when it's so cold haha but I want to try anything! Have any of you tried the travel bands?

If you're really struggling get to the GP - there are lots of medicine options which can really help.

kirinm · 25/02/2018 09:55

Chewing gum helped me. It wouldn't always work but it was often just enough to get me through work.

Hi op

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I feel the same as you. Constant nausea. It’s really awful.
I’m going to end up huge because I just keep eating to get rid of the the sick feeling for all of 5 minutes. I’m interested to know if the sick bands work too

ER1992 · 26/02/2018 08:51

I'm getting myself some of the band's today to see if it helps. I will let you know. Yesterday I struggled to actually keep anything I ate down so I think if that carries on I will end up at the Drs. Not to bad so far this morning.. fingers crossed!

I can’t really wear the bands at work because people will probably guess. I don’t really want to tell them all yet!

jhb2013 · 26/02/2018 17:25

Polos, anything salty (popcorn was my main food source for 10 weeks!) raw carrots. Just got to get through it day by day.

Knittedfairies · 26/02/2018 17:28

I ate Polo mints practically non-stop for about 3 months - and have never touched one since!

Anatidae · 26/02/2018 17:30

Drugs.
Not that they worked...

ER1992 · 26/02/2018 19:52

I think the band's helped to an extent but didn't take the feeling away completely. Since I've been home and taken them off to shower etc I can stop reaching. They will be far to tight to sleep in though so still going to wake up feeling awful

There are some safe over the counter antihistamines that are used as first line anti emetics. Meclozine for example (often packaged as a travel sickness medication.) Make sure you check with your pharmacist before you take any.

If your nausea is severe enough to impact your day to day activities, or you’re unable to keep enough good or fluid down you need medical attention (believe me, in my second hg pregnancy..) there are safe medications and you shouldn’t have to just put up with it.

LaurG · 27/02/2018 22:33

I feel your pain. I was quite lucky as my nausea wore off about week 11. I’m now 21 weeks. I really didn’t think I could cope at first.

My advice is eat whatever you feel like. I didn’t have any fruit or veg for about 8 weeks. Has the diet of a very fussy child... white bread, ham, chips, cheese, potatoes and pasta (plain). It was all I could face anything else made my stomach turn. Also snack whenever you feel sick. I had plain crackers with me at all times. This helped.

With me the nausea got worse when I was tired. So look for things that trigger the nausea and avoid them. I also ended up telling work early as I couldn’t handle riding the tube to work. Kept blacking out. They were very good and let me come in 30mins late so I could get a later train.

It will ease off though. You forget about it really quickly.

ER1992 · 04/03/2018 20:11

So today I am really struggling and haven't managed to keep anything I've eaten down? How long do I wait before contacting GP?
Yesterday was a brilliant day and didn't feel sick at all and managed to eat 3 good meals.
Could I have overdone it because I was feeling well which is why I'm suffering today? It's the worse day I've had yet. I'm now on week 7 in my pregnancy
