Cone shaped bump when tensed?

I’m 36 weeks today! And noticed for probably the last 6 weeks maybe more, that when my stomach muscles are tensed (sitting up in bed etc) my bump goes into a cone shape? I always thought it was the shape of the baby but been doing some reading and it’s saying separation of abdominal muscles? I’ve also just noticed that around my belly button now looks bruised and feels very soft and wobbly.

anyone had experience of this and it NOT turning out for the worst? I was really
Hoping to avoid the Pooch belly that can happen.. I was a size 8 with a flat stomach pre preg Sad

Google distasis recti, it's when the abdominal wall splits, happens to some during pregnancy. I've got it and the Gap is slowly closing, I haven't got a pouch as such, just my belly button sits a little loose if that makes sense, I'm a size 8-10, was size 6 pre pregnancy, this thing isn't a factor of my size though, just that I was ok with not getting myself back to a size 6 :) core work and if bad physio following pregnancy

I had a gap after having DS, it was extremely odd pushing against my abdomen and finding no resistance at all! But they went back together. My midwife gave me gentle exercises to do and I also did baby yoga with DS - which was a lot of singing for him but also included poses for the mums to help with our abdominals and pelvic floors.

The main thing is to do exercises that are specifically designed for the post-natal period, as I believe that doing better straight stomach crunches etc (assuming you even have the energy, which I did not!) can actually make it worse!

In my area we could also self-refer to the specialist ante- and post-natal Physio Team, so I also saw them, in my case mostly for SPD but they prodded my tummy a bit as well.

You mustn't do "sit up" type things. Roll over in bed instead of sitting up. The muscles will separate but hopefully knit back together after the birth (eventually!) I was given exercises by a physio.

I wish I knew about this before now. I definitely have been hauling myself out of bed with a massive URGH rather than rolling myself out... Sad did the exercises help for you? I remember one of my friends showing me her post baby tum and she is severely self conscious about it. From googling pics of diastasis recti I know now that’s what she must have had, it was so wrinkly and saggy all in a big circle

Holly mine isn't like that, everyone's skin springs back differently post pregnancy, he's may not have been that issue, it doesn't happen to everyone. Mine isn't as bad as you describe and I'm no spring chicken
