Side sleeping cot bed?

Due my baby in May and I really need to get cracking with getting something for her to sleep in!
I think I'm after a cot bed where the base can be lifted quite high or lowered, which I can attach to my bed when she's tiny, use as a proper cot after 6 months and will convert to a toddler bed when she's older. Am I asking too much??
Everything seems to be Next2Me or Snuzpods but I don't want to spend money on multiple things as she grows.
I've seen what I think I'm after on eBay but its collection only and nowhere near me, it's got a side panel that can be stored underneath. It's from Mothercare but I don't think they sell it anymore.
My mum had a cot bed (12 yrs ago) and just removed one side and pushed it up against her bed but I don't know how easy that is on cots you buy now.
Somebody help me stop over thinking this!!

Google Ikea cot hack.

We hired a bednest for DD1 and if we need to are going to for the next one which is due in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, we just did the IKEA hack - we drilled in new holes to make it exactly aligned with the bed, wedged the cot against the wall, and put very tightly rolled up towels and cellular blankets on the wall side of the mattress to make sure there was no gap between that and our mattress. That all makes it sound complicated but it was super easy and cheap!

Before that used the bednest - it is expensive but gets better value if you have multiple kids, or you can hire.

IKEA hack sounds good, will check it out! Thanks

We had a next to me but my DD never liked it We've now taken the side off her normal cot (that converts in to a toddler bed so is stable without it) and attached that to the side of my bed. I no longer have a bed side table but it's working well for us. She starts the night in there before moving over during the night as she's 9 months now so mobile.

The snuzpods and next2me do seem to hold value when being sold on. I got my next2me second hand but still paid £90 which seems ro be going rate round me.

MooChops89 · 22/02/2018 00:47

@Teakind that's what I want to do, I wondered if it would be stable enough. Think I'll have a browse round some shops tomorrow and have a look at some cot beds to see which ones I could do that with

It’s £35 to hire a bednest for six months. We loved ours.

Rockandrollwithit · 22/02/2018 14:27

I think it depends on if you are planning to have more children later.

We know DS2 is our last, so we just rented a bednest.

Unless you plan to have 3+ kids it will be cheaper to hire a bednest than to buy something initially. You get a new mattress each time.

Then you can get a traditional cotbed from 6mo.
