Mcflurry's in pregnancy?

Can you or not? Apparently there is a mini egg one out & I would absolutely love one! I'm aware you can't have Mr Whippy's but I read somewhere Mcflurrys are fine. Don't know how true this is?

I was told not, two weeks ago at booking appointment. Sorry! Buy some milk, ice cream and mini eggs and shove it in a blender?! Might taste nothing like it, but you never know...!

welshweasel · 20/02/2018 19:25

Yes. A McFlurry is fine.

Owlettele · 20/02/2018 19:27

Not advice as it seems i must be wrong. I had a fair few of both when pregnant each time. Particularly as it was summer. Never told not to!! 😐

welshweasel · 20/02/2018 19:27

It makes me so cross that midwives spout shit like this - they can’t even follow the advice given on the nhs website!

Rikalaily · 20/02/2018 19:29

McFlurries are fine as McDonalds clean out the machines very regularly. Mr Whippy from an ivecream van is a no no because they might not be so hot at flushing the machine properly.

NewSense · 20/02/2018 19:33

I stand corrected! Enjoy your mcflurry! (ponders what else I might have been incorrectly told...)

Bananarama12 · 20/02/2018 19:34

Really??? I had mcflurries. Never even crossed my mind to think I couldn't.

Buglife · 20/02/2018 19:35

Yes it’s fine.

I’m amazed a midwife told someone not to have a McFlurry Confused

Notsooriginalwerther · 20/02/2018 19:38

McFlurry completely fine! I had about a million when i was pregnant. Enjoy! (I really want on everyone now)

OutyMcOutface · 20/02/2018 19:39

No if you want to be extra safe-soft serve ice creams pose a listeria risk.

LouJDawe · 20/02/2018 19:41

I'm pregnant and love a good old mcflurry u drove to McDonald's earlier just to get an Oreo one 😁

dontforgetbilly · 20/02/2018 19:42

Depends on cleanliness standards of the mcds you get it, which hugely varies!

Check loos and have a quick peek behind counter before you order GrinWink

OutyMcOutface · 20/02/2018 19:42

*i doubt it's likely to be an issue in winter/in ma Donald's though. It depends on how careful you are being.

FlopsyMcDoodle · 20/02/2018 19:42

If you want to be extra safe then stay in a sealed room for the next 9 months. Even the nhs website says it’s fine.

dementedpixie · 20/02/2018 19:43

Mcflurry is fine. The machines will be cleaned regularly. They are not on the nhs avoid list

Buglife · 20/02/2018 19:43

The problem with reading NHS advice and then deciding it’s wrong because you want to be “extra safe” is that it leads to a state where people could end up with very disordered eating and become fearful of anything. Why eat out at all, you might catch something from anywhere etc etc. The guidelines are perfectly fine and sensible and the listeria risk of any food is minuscule.

boldfish · 20/02/2018 20:09

Whoops - first I've heard of this and I lived on soft ice cream and mcflurries during a very hot June at 36 weeks. DS is fine (I think!) Blush

boldfish · 20/02/2018 20:09

Oh, just seen the nhs link. Feel less guilty!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 20/02/2018 20:13

I wonder this on a lot of the food threads. People always talk about being "naughty" and having seafood/mcflurrys/ham etc, which are all fine according to NhS. I agree with pp above who said that worrying can lead to real anxiety and disordered/obsessive eating.

Tinks15 · 20/02/2018 20:45

Thanks all Grin. I think I'll be purchasing a mini egg Mcflurry!

My MW told me to avoid Mcflurries, I've ignored that piece of advice... However have avoided Mr whippy type ice creams as the cleanliness may not be so good!

fitbitbore · 20/02/2018 21:34

It's due to the tiny chance of listeria being present if the machines aren't cleaned properly. I assessed my need for mcflurries higher than the risk of contracting listeria. Bloody love a mcflurry.
