Hi i was just looking for some advice
I am expecting my first baby next month and had applied for the sure start maternity grant, i needed my midwife to sign it for me but she was off sick so a cover midwife iv never met signed it instead. I had told them i needed it signed and ready to pick up urgently as they make you wait until after your universal credit payment to recieve the grant, the midwife took the form away with her and told me she signed and posted it. Two weeks passed and id had no confirmation of them having my application so tried to get hold of midwife to make sure it was defo posted.. a week later she gets in touch and says shes been on days off and that it was left at my dr suggery for me to pick up! So after being messed around for 3 weeks i was looking over the form and see that shes made a mistake and put that im due 2 babies not one! What im wondering is should i just send it and pretend i never noticed as having to chase them about again to sign a new one will mean i wont get the grant on time with my universal credit, this would mean the baby is born and wont have a pram or car seat to even get home until shes about a month old.. help :s

You need to let them know else you'd be knowingly claiming for two knowing you have one and they could see that as fraud.

Is it something easily rectified on the form (e.g. could you overwrite and correct 2 to 1)? This is technically not the right thing to do (altering something after it's been signed), but at least it's the truth and shouldn't affect anything else that's been written...

Alternatively you could send with a covering letter saying that you've noticed a mistake and confirm that you're only having one baby.

I would also contact your original midwife and see if there's anything she can do to rectify the mistake ASAP (i.e. fill in a new form and leave it at GP for you to pick up).

Sending the form with 2 on it will definitely be looked at as benefits fraud (my DH's ex wife knowingly did this without his knowledge).

I would correct the form, & send a covering letter also saying you've done so. Can you send a copy of any scan notes as well? My last scan had 'singleton' written on it which I found quite funny but it'll prove you're telling the truth!
