Induction - spd

Hey there. I am just wondering if anyone has been induced due to spd? I'm 36 weeks now and I've been going to physio since I was 19 weeks when the spd first began. I am in agony with my pelvis, hips, back and bum. I struggle to walk and do simple household chores now and I am just getting to fed up of the pain and popping paracetamol which doesn't even help! I've fallen twice due to my leg giving way due to the pain and I am so scared it happens again and I fall on my bump. Is induction something I can ask for or will the midwife just laugh it off?

You can ask for induction due to severe pain but they will want you ask close to 38+ weeks as possible just for common sense reasons.

Now, if you ask for induction due to SPD this is what could happen.
(Based on NHS Glasgow rules I was given).

You would be consultant based, NO water births, no Midwife led and you would be restricted due to pain on positions etc- if it's severe enough a Csection is an option.

So it's down to not caring as long as baby comes out happy and healthy or having issues with the above(your own areas guidelines).

Good luck mama - I know it's not fun.

Thank you for your reply 😊.

I was going to ask if induction was an option for round about 39 weeks as I am just terrified of going overdue and possibly having to face this pain for longer. I already discussed birthing positions with my physio so I have an idea of positions I want to be in when the time comes.

I just feel a bit silly asking to be induced when I know women out there really need to be induced for various other reasons. I'm hoping my midwife is understanding but if induction is not an option I will just need to grin and bear it.

I've had it in the last 3 of my pregnancies but they wouldn't consider induction. Really feel for you it's the worst pain, I'm still battling it 10 months pp. The good news is with the others it disappeared straight after birth-I hope it does for you too Thanks

I had it bad (started at 8 weeks, physio at 12 weeks). I wasn't induced until 2 days over and that was due to other factors. They did give me sweeps from 37 weeks due to the spd, I think I had 3 or 4 in total they didn't work.

I had a consultant appointment and they wouldn't induce before 40 weeks for me, even though my midwife said they might do it earlier.
They did however say I could have sweeps from 38 weeks... I'm not expecting much to happen.
My first was born at 42+2 so induction at 40 weeks doesn't seem terrible.
You can ask!

It is certainly worth asking but your midwife wouldn't be able to make the decision and she would need to refer you to a Consultant who would decide.
They have to weigh up the risks versus benefits of induction and this can lead to different Consultants making different decisions.
In my experience you don't get if you don't ask though, so got to be worth a try. Good luck :)
