Update for anyone who knows, cares and/or has been waiting on tenterhooks since this thread (esp Annie75 ).

24wk arterial Doppler to check for placental sufficiency, intrauterine growth retardation etc was utterly normal.

Professor is indeed a intelligent and reasonable fluffy bunny of a man with endearingly frayed labcoat.

Was livid that his junior registrar had left me so misinformed and will take her to task.
Agreed that we shouldn't go looking for trouble (as it were) but should make decisions as and when need arises
ie he sees no need yet to commit to a fully medicalised birth.
Would like me to be in hospital though but tbh that I can live with.

Feeling 600000 times better about the whole thing and am taking his advice to meet each stage as it comes and see what nature throws at us rather than stressing about what's not here yet.

So thanks for all your support - the emotional crisis (if not the obstetric one ) appears to have passed.

Great news Mrs Badger!! Glad that things are not as black as they seem...

Ah, just seen your thread Excellent news, MrsB. Awful that you were misinformed by registrar in the first place - there does seem to be a tendancy for them to worry you first and then the loooooong wait for reassurance from a senior consultant. I spent weeks on the web worrying and then researching my raised AFP levels (which was A Good Thing as I felt properly informed by the time I saw the consultant.

Don't completely dismiss the idea of a home birth just yet perhaps - see how you go and whether if, all the signs are good, they might be supportive of a home birth (from what people have told me, they need a bloody good reason to advise otherwise).

In any event, am v pleased and relieved for you

Good news, MrsB. Hope it all continues in the same vein (if that isn't a bad choice of phrase?).

Taylormama · 03/05/2007 13:37
