Low PAAP-A hormone detected at screening test

I recently had my 12 week screening test (although I was 14 weeks due to them recording my dates wrong at the booking in call)

I received a letter to say there's low chances of Downs ect however my PAAP-A hormone was low and will require extra monitoring and scans. They also prescribed 150mg of Aspirin.

The letter explains this is due to the risk of slowed growth in later pregnancy and preeclampsia.

Has anyone else had this? I stupidly googled it and prenatal death and still birth came up so I'm looking for others experiences.

Thank you Smile

I had this in my first pregnancy and was scared witless at first had three extra scans but ds1 was born bang on average size. I am now pg again and it doesn't seem to have recurred.

Me! Mine was classed as being “pathologically low” by the foetal medicine consultant. I can’t remember the exact figure but it was well out of range.

This was my third pregnancy - the other two had been completely uneventful. With this one I was scanned every 4 weeks to check the growth of the baby plus I had umbilical cord dopplers to check the blood flow to and from the baby. This was 5 years ago so things will have moved on, I was told I could take aspirin 75mg daily if I wanted to but that there wasn’t enough evidence at the time for them to categorically prescribe it.

It was an emotional roller coaster but I did feel very well cared for and supported at my local hospital - I didn’t need to be referred to a specialist tertiary centre.

DS was born 3 days after his due date, at home (approved my my consultant - I have a history of fast births). He was a bit smaller than my other two but still over 7lbs. He did look a bit scrappy at birth but soon picked up. He’s now 5 and the biggest in his reception class at primary school. Honestly, he’s massive! He’s also very bright and very awkward Hmm

All the very best to you. Please feel free to ask me anything but bear in mind this is 5 years ago so recommendations / treatment may we’ll have changed.

I was told the same at my 12 week bloods my Papp-a was 0.31,

I was prescribed aspirin straight away and was booked in for 2 growth scans one at 27 weeks (which he was average size) and I have my second this coming Thursday which I won't lie I am getting nervous for.

I've read and read that many babies are born perfectly healthy sizes with this and the hospitals do monitor you so fingers crossed everything's fine! :) xxx

Thank you all! You've really reassured me!

I hope everything goes well at your scan @Shaunieh95 I'm sure it'll be fine! Smile
