I'm missing soft cheese. A lot. I miss Roquefort, I miss Gorgonzola, I miss Brie and Danish blue. Anyone got any suggestions of similar tasting cheese that can be eaten if pregnant?

Watching this for tips! Most cheese shops do sell pasteurised soft cheese such as Camembert which is just the ticket - especially at Christmas when missing out on th mulled wine was bad enough!

Aldi do a tiny cheese roulade thing in different flavours that are just cream cheese I think, so would be safe to eat.

Baked camembert has got me through many a cheese craving over the last 8 months - you can have soft cheese if it's piping hot all the way through! Avoid the rind and enjoy all the gooey deliciousness inside with some fresh french bread... Grin

Also, depending on how strict you are being - Waitrose do a pasteurised Epoisses which in theory is safe if you don't eat the rind.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but...I've never actually had Camembert. BlushGrin Do I have to heat it if pregnant or can I just not eat the rind and eat it as it is?

I personally eat all cheeses when pregnant and have in all my pregnancies. Most of what you'll find sold commercially is pastuerised anyway. Realistically, you can get listeria in anything and compared to other things actually isn't even a particularly high risk. Taking the rind off won't make a difference though. If you're comfortable to eat pasteurised cheese, you'll find loads at most supermarkets.

I ate all of them as I didn't know different at first. Then after I knew I didn't buy from. Deli I brought pasteurised ones and then cooked them.. Altho just after that I went off them except bog standard hard cheddar... Which has now made me think of cheddar makes way to fridge

Camembert needs to be cooked. You can have stilton.

Baked camembert studded with garlic and rosemary is heavenly. You'll love it and it's safe when you bake it and it goes all melty.

Argh, no no no. The advice is to avoid all mould-ripened soft cheeses EVEN IF they are pasteurised. You can of course ignore this, and many do, but it’s a particularly persistent myth that Brie / Camembert etc is perfectly safe if pasteurised. Unpasteurised hard cheese is considered fine, so you could have a really ripe Stilton.

Have them hot, OP. Baked Camembert, fondue, blue cheese on pizza.

You've never had camembert OP?! You're in for a treat. Delish normally (although not when pregnant) but even better when baked. Cut a big X in the top, then stud it with slivers of garlic and a sprig of rosemary. Bake for 20 minutes until you see cheese bubbling up through the X. Devour with lots of crusty bread and slices of apple and carrots to dip.

A decadent alternative to garlic and rosemary is to drizzle honey and truffle oil in the X before baking... oh so good.
