Bleeding at 5 weeks...

So I’m 5 weeks + 1 day and this is my first pregnancy. I’ve been bleeding for 24 hours now. I’ve spoken to my doctor this morning and she said it could be implantation bleeding or a miscarriage it’s too early to tell. She said to keep an eye on it and if it gets any heavier to contact again. It’s not got heavier as such it’s just still the same and constant.

I’ve read that if it continues for longer than 3 days to go and physically see the doctor.

Sunday night would be 3 days. However I’m due to go on holiday early on Monday morning for a week, so currently feeling quite stressed.

I will go into a bit more detail (apologies for the graphic ness)

The blood started off brown and quickly turned bright red/pink and it is as heavy as my normal period would be. I have discomfort on my lower left hand side which is quite consistent cramping but not really painful more just constant discomfort.

Has anybody else experienced this? What would people suggest? I just have a really feeling...but I do tend to think the worst :(

Thanks in advance xxx

When I had my miscarriage it started of as wiping with blood on the tissue it wouldn't fill the pad completely but there was some on there visually. I went to Paris and on the way back from spotting for 6 days on and off the blood filled my pads every second -not to scare you- best thing I can recommend is laying down raising your legs on a pillow and rest up and what ever happens will happen but I'm sure you'll be fine! Sorry if I scared you in anyway!

Hi OP. I have experienced the same thing. Mine was a chemical pregnancy. In theory it's a really really early miscarriage. But Doctors don't classify it as one as it's so early on. Therefore the only proof you had of being pregnant was the chemical reaction in the test, the HPG level, and would not show up on a pregnancy scan. This is why it's referred to as a chemical pregnancy. They like to say it's a "late" period.
If you wouldn't have taken a test you wouldn't have known you was pregnant.
Do another test.
I would say you still might be pregnant but due to the heavy bleeding I don't think you are.
You can get in touch with your local early pregnancy unit at hospital, or the doctor can refer you there.
They will be able to tell you what's going on.

All mine started off with brown blood then red.
Of course I'm not a Doctor, so you still might be pregnant but I think it's a chemical pregnancy from the symptoms your describing.

If it is a chemical then count the first day of that bleed as your period, for ovulation dates for next time.
Also if it's a chemical then it won't effect your holiday, bleeding should have calmed down or stopped by then. The body is good at repairing itself early on in pregnancy, and you shouldn't need any extra medical assistance as the body treats it like a late period. But you do need to know if you have lost it or not.
Sorry for all the posts but I'm only all to familiar with with it.

You can self refer to some early pregnancy units but this early on, they would probably ask you to come back in a week or so.

If the bleeding gets worse go straight to A&E if out of hours.

I had periods until I was 5 months pregnant with my son
