32 weeks and now transverse

Hi all!

Just had my midwife appointment, I'm just over 32 weeks and baby's heads been well in my pelvis since a scan at 27 weeks if not before.

He's now decided he doesn't like it in there and has wriggled out and is now laying transverse across my tummy 😩.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Worrying as I know they should be head down if not at least breach by this point.

I'm already having regular blood tests due to creating antibodies (RH Neg) and growth scans due to Low Papp-A!

Is baby destined to get out of there early?

Babies do whatever they want in there - transverse now doesn't necessarily mean bad news for labour/birth.

Ds was transverse until at least week 35 I think. Certainly I had a scan around that point and he'd flipped from transverse to head down between in a couple of days between my midwife app and my scan.

I have a growth scan next week and they're using the same scan to confirm his positioning, as from there not sure what they will do, will it just be regular checks to check his positioning up until 36 weeks? X

I wouldn't panic. It's probably just a temporary shift. Both of mine have been breech to 34 weeks. It's certainly easier to turn head down from breech than transverse. The head usually becomes heavier than the bum around 33 weeks and that's when many of them swivel around. In the meantime, lots of attention to your posture and doing some exercises from Spinning Babies for optimal positioning won't hurt. Swimming also helped me and I think my 2nd turned literally while I was in the pool. You have plenty of time still.

Other than the scans you're already having, it will likely just be midwife palpating to determine position. Once she's confident he's head down, they likely won't do more scans unless you're having them anyway. With my first I did have a scan at 36 weeks, but it had been booked from 20 weeks to check my placenta anyway, but also helped confirm she was definitely head down. 2nd time around the midwife just checked by palpating and was happy she could feel how he was lying. I've not had any extra scans at all this pregnancy.

*easier from transverse to turn, I mean.

I'm also 32 weeks and the baby was transverse at my scan on Thursday but is now head down today. The head isn't low down yet. My mw said not to worry yet!

My baby decided to lie transverse at 39 weeks, they turned and I got induced at 39+4 weeks.

My first baby was born just before 32 weeks, and he was still flipping around all over the place in the couple of days before he was born.

My second was breach at 20 and 25 week scans, and MW thought she was breech around 32 weeks as well. I did the Spinning Babies exercised. Next MW check, she thought she had turned to head down, but thought it would be worth being sure, and sent me for a positional scan at 36 weeks - baby was in the right position.

Thanks all!!!

Can feel him moving around constantly so hopefully he will get himself back in position!

Don’t worry. Baby was transverse at 32 weeks, breech at 34 and head down at 36! Now 37 weeks and I think he’s still head down. It just seems like he went the long way round to get into the right position!
