my friend has just found out she's pregnant but has a bit of a thing about going to the doctors. she's not registered with anyone at the moment and is shortly moving to the fulham area and i was just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good/friendly doctor in the area.

also, does anyone know what sort of care you get from midwives i.e. domino scheme or anything like that. thanks!

Is she looking for a private doctor, or an nhs doctor? General practitioner or gynecologist?

I go to one in Brook Green who is very nice but she probably won't be in the catchment as they kept us on when we moved. Depends what postcode she's moving to.
There's a practice of a few doctors at 82 Lillie Road where I have all my antenatal visits.
Midwife care will depend which hospital she registers with. Main choices are Queen Charlottes (where I had dd) and Chelsea and Westminster (where I'm having this one). I prefer the ante natal care at C&W because I have seen only two different midwives for all my visits and they have the possibility of having your visits at this doctor's surgery rather than trecking to the hospital each time. Also they're pretty much on time with appointments. With QCs I found that I never saw the same midwife twice and was always kept waiting at least 45 minutes.

she's looking for an nhs gp, and is a bit nervous about meeting midwives (probably scared by my stories of how awful mine was that i told her before i knew she was pregnant!)

i think she just wants reassurance that the midwives will be friendly and that she won't be subjected to loads of internal exams and scary stuff.

C&W midwives have both been lovely. No internals, mostly just blood pressure, feel the bump, listen to the heartbeat and chat about any issues. Not even the routine wee test although a couple of sets of standard blood tests (for iron levels etc) and one GTT which didn't bother me at all although I know other people don't like them.
However she will need to register with a GP to refer her to the hospital and most of the GPs do shared care I think (so a couple of you ante natals are with the GP rather than midwife).
Any questions feel free to ask.
