Changed tastes in pregnancy - do they come back?

I'm finding myself sensitive to bitter and tannic flavours in pregnancy. I've gone off tea, coffee, cabbage. But most distressingly to me, when I have a taste of other people's beer, the hop flavours seem completely dominant, in beers that I knew and enjoyed before pregnancy. I really love beer, and am involved in my local beer scene, and the idea that I won't enjoy it after pregnancy is upsetting.

Although I have experienced a lot of nausea, I don't find these flavours make me feel sick: only that they don't taste like they used to.

I'm generally finding my tastes have simplified, and that I'm cut off from pleasurable experiences. Are they likely to come back?

I had a very limited diet when I was pg. All 4 times actually. Some tastes came back and others didn't. I still can't stand any veg like cabbage or cauliflower and I can't stand ginger either from being force fed it so often.

However I developed tastes for very bad food and drink that I wouldn't normally touch. Full sugar coke and super noodles and I can't stand either now.

Yup, it returns to normal. I went right off mayo, to the extent even the sight of it made me feel nauseous. I love mayo and was back to loving it after. I also had major cravings for wine gums, and seldom went anywhere without a big bag, I wasn't a fan of them before or after.

Usually, but with my first pregnancy (over 11 years ago) I developed a big aversion to sweet corn, despite previously loving it and scoffing a tonne of it before the aversion set in - and now I still don’t like it. So that’s lasted

I had hyperemesis despite my vegan diet so there's no guarantees even if you don't eat meat or dairy. The first hospital meal I had straight after dd was born was amazing as it was the first time in 9 months I hadn't felt nauseous. I enjoyed black coffee and dark chocolate again soon after pregnancy- had had strong aversion to them throughout. I still avoid bins and the fridge as much as possible as I'm really over sensitive to food smells now.

It’s not whether the individual eats meat or dairy - it’s more a population level effect. Subtle genetic differences in populations rather than ones individual diet.

Yes that first food after delivery! And being able to gulp down water without vomiting. I was so thirsty, I just drank and drank. Bliss

Interested to hear about this! I had a massive sweet tooth pre pregnancy and loved chocolate, but have gone off all sweet things - chocolate, cake, biscuits, ice cream, desserts - other than fruit which I am constantly craving. Quite pleased that at least it's a healthy choice but wonder if I will ever love chocolate again!
