Really sudden sharp stab of pain... normal??

Okay - please give me honest opinions here. I am exactly 5 weeks pregnant. Just stood up and had THE most awful sharp stab of pain on my lower right. It was v painful and I fell back into my chair with the pain/shock. Then it disappeared and my normal dull cramping that I've been having on and off for around a fortnight came back - feel fine now. But it terrified me. I rang 111 then got put on hold then hung up as I don't know what they can really say/do. Can anyone please tell me if they experienced anything like this at around 5 weeks... is it normal or should I be worried?? No blood whatsoever so far. Thanks in advance. X

I would ring 111 again. One sided pain can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy, and that needs medical attention.

Thanks. Isn't that continuous pain though? Just don't know. Thinking about booking an appointment with GP tomorrow instead- I feel fine now and it only lasted for 3 seconds but scared the bejezus out of me!

It can come and go. Just not worth messing with though. Get some proper medical advice though, I’m just a Mum on mumsnet!

I got that a fair bit around that time - now 28 weeks but no harm in getting checked out

Thanks - I took your advice actually and did ring 111. She took some details and I'm waiting for a call back from someone else now. At least it's out of my hands now. Probably/hopefully nothing but I have no idea what normal is!! Thanks so much for helping out a stranger ... pregnancy is a scary place!!

It's probably just round ligament pain, but good that you're getting checked out.

Well I ended up going to the out of hours clinic then being sent to A&E... then bring sent to the gynocology dept, then being examined then told to stay in overnight and scan first thing tomorrow!! Absolutely TERRIFIED but thanks so much for telling me to make the call - the docs all said it was def the right thing to do! Just hope it's all okay now..

Sounds just like round ligament pain. It had me on my knees in early pregnancy if I made a sudden movement.
Mention it to your gp though just in case xx

Mrstobe90 · 05/02/2018 00:58

Just seen your last post! Hope you're ok xx

Yeh thanks - left hospital this morning. Definitely not ectopic. Too early to see heartbeat but def something there in right place. They said those pains aren't 'normal but do 'happen' though weren't sure why. Ffs pregnancy is scary.

How scary, glad it isnt ectopic though. Try and relax and treat yourself to something nice. Preganancy is a weird and wonderful ride, and it is a marathon, not a sprint.
