Tiredness in pregnancy?

I just wanted to know other peoples experiences. Even when I wasn’t pregnant I was a very tired person and really should have been on at doctors to find out the reason why but right now I am struggling so badly. I am 16+4, I had some infection last week which took it out me a bit but I’ve started to feel better but I can still hardly get out my bed. I’m up for a couple of hours and my body feels like a ton weight and I need to go back to sleep but no matter how much sleep I get nothing changes. I guessed it was with me being unwell too but it doesn’t seem to be lifting and I’m getting so fed up feeling like this

How were your iron levels in your booking-in bloods?

Stacy07 · 04/02/2018 18:15

They haven’t mentioned iron levels to me. Just checked my notes and can’t find anything mentioned on there either although at last weeks doctors appt I mentioned how pale I had been and my mum had wondered if I needed blood but doctor did not say anything and just commented if they took my blood at 12 week scan they should be ok x

It does sound like anaemia. In your notes there should be a section with blood results written in, can you see anything that says Hb (haemoglobin)?

gryffen · 04/02/2018 18:22

Sounds like low iron and haemoglobin.

Just before I found out I was pregnant with dc1 in 2014 my breathing was laboured and tiredness was ridiculous- my Haem had dropped to 50 - think safe levels are 150-200.

Cue 5 pints of blood and emergency hospital admissions along with emergency endoscope and lumbar puncture.

Perfectly fine after it.

Lj8893 · 04/02/2018 18:25

Haemoglobin should be above 105 ideally in pregnancy but it's individualised too. Some people might run just fine at 100 wheras others might struggle at 110 if they are usually 130 etc

0nly thing is haeoglobinopayhy blood test performed on 12 dec but nothing about results just a list of what I was tested for x

op it would be worth finding out what the result was, if it's not written in your notes then it could be possible that it's not been reviewed.

Stacy07 · 04/02/2018 19:04

Thank you. Doctor was no help, she just commented she hadn’t been pregnant but another doctor had and said tiredness is just part of pregnancy which I understand but not to this extent so think I’ll try book another appt and ask them to please just check it out

I would contact the maternity unit and ask them to look at your blood results, they should be able to have a look at them whilst you are on the phone. They will be able to tell you what your HB level is and if it is low you can then go to your gp and ask for iron tablets.

Also, up your iron intake. Things like spinach, broccoli, sprouts etc are all rich in iron.

Try taking some spatone while you sort out a test. It might help and won't harm.

Stacy07 · 04/02/2018 20:10

Thanks, I’ll give them a call tomorrow that’s a good idea!
I’d never heard of spatone, I’ll see if someone can pick some up for me. Thanks very much for everyones advice
