Hi I'm exactly 7w, I got my positive at 5w 2d I rang our local doctors and the first telephone phone call wasn't too nice as if you seen my thread before, the receptionist told me it was too early to get a accurate positive and that she wasn't filling out the paperwork until I wait another 7 days and when she thought I'd hung up I heard her call me 'daft'

Anyway many of you probably remember my thread about that but this thread is about something slightly different.

I rang the doctors again at 5w 3d as I got a test that said pregnant (the same day as the first telephone call to the doctors at 5w 2d)
We filled out my forms so I felt like I got a step further however I've only gotten as far as talking to the receptionist and been left 'hanging' as I've seen no doctors yet ( not sure if your supposed too this early, to confirm pregnancy? ) not future appointments have been made either, I haven't actually got a doctor either as mine recently left the medical centre. The lady said on the phone that I have to wait for a phone call no information on when? Who?

So I'm pretty confused, I live in the Uk, Somerset and the medical centre we have here is pretty diabolical, and has a lot of bed reviews but I'm not entitled to register at any other medical centre as ours are based on your living location near the medical centre. I heard that 8 weeks you normally have a appointment but I don't know if I'm waiting for nothing as this medical centre isn't reliable?

Can any one offer advise?
Sorry I do waffle on, I'm 19 years old FTM so unsure of these things x

Here you’d see a MW around 8-10 weeks to “book in” and this is either arranged by your surgery contacting the community MWs or you can call them yourself. We are in Scotland.
Many people won’t see anyone til 8-10 weeks- that’s normal.

Congratulations!

Liannemaria86 · 03/02/2018 17:59

I'm in Lincolnshire and I didn't have to see my GP. I just rang my local maternity unit and booked my 8 week appointment direct with the midwife.

KadabrasSpoon · 03/02/2018 18:00

Where I live you just book in with the hospital. Have a look at the hospitals website to see what the procedure is.
All GP does is tell you take folic acid, don't smoke etc - they don't confirm pregnancy

Gem173 · 03/02/2018 18:14

I called doctors about 4 weeks 2 days, had my first doctors appt to confirm pregnancy at 7 weeks then booked my first midwife appt (booking in appointment) for 10 weeks pregnant. Then 4 days later got my first scan date through which is on Tuesday 13th feb :)

FancyNewBeesly · 03/02/2018 18:17

I went to see my gp when I found out I was pregnant and the response was basically "that's nice" - I thought they'd do a test but they don't. She just told me to make a midwife booking appointment at reception.

your local maternity service should have a website, often you can self refer - you won't be seen until youre around 10 weeks in most places.

Ihatemarmite123 · 03/02/2018 20:39

Go to the chemist and get folic acid if you aren't already. Your surgery sounds rubbish. At mine you just ask to see midwife at 8 weeks, no intrusive receptionists. At your 8 week appointment they ask loads of questions, do a few blood tests, maybe book your 12 week scan and give you folic acid

pastabest · 03/02/2018 21:17

You book in directly with the midwives in my area. The GP doesn't get involved at all.

NimbleKnitter · 03/02/2018 21:50

You can check the procedure by looking at the website for your nhs trust.

Taunton & Somerset, for example, require a gp referral. Often this will be the receptionist, but check the website first so you know what you're asking for

Woodchuck9 · 03/02/2018 21:52

@NimbleKnitter would you know what I'd have to write to find this information for their procedures as Taunton is actually our local hospital but I can seem to see procedures on their site, thank you

Thank you ladies for all the advise

Congratulations!
In my area you don't see a GP, you ring the surgery who gives the midwife your number who then arranges a booking appointment to ask you lots of questions (usually at your house)
You will get a letter for your 12 week scan, if you don't get one by the time you're around 11 weeks i would ring your midwife, as i didn't and when i rang her my appointment was the next day.
At your scan they will give you an accurate due date and tell you how far along you are. They will take bloods and ask you more questions.
I saw my midwife again at 16 weeks. You don't see much of anyone until you get into 20+ weeks unless you have a high risk pregnancy.
If you have more than one hospital locally you can usually choose which one you want to go to.

NimbleKnitter · 03/02/2018 22:07

Website is here

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/antenatal-midwife-care-pregnant/#starting-antenatal-care

Phone your gp and ask for the number for the community midwife.

(Ps getting all of this from an internet search...)

eurochick · 03/02/2018 22:23

I didn't see a midwife until around 11 weeks. In my area I had to have a pointless appointment with a GP in order to be referred to the midwifery service, but I understand that most areas don't require it.

zaalitje · 04/02/2018 07:28

No need to see a GP, the only time I've seen mine since bfp has been to check for high BP at about 20 weeks.

It's the midwife you need, some areas you self refer, in others they'll call you back to arrange appt. You'll be seen about 8-10 weeks.

Rumpledfaceskin · 04/02/2018 07:31

Op ypu usually have to phone the midwife department yourself. There should be a number in your pack that you got from the doctor, they will book your booking in appt. good luck.

PenguinChristmas · 04/02/2018 08:07

I’m Weston so not that far from you. My midwife booked me in at 8ish weeks. Asked if I wanted Weston hospital, Yeovil, Taunton or Bristol. Then I got sent a letter with my 12 week scan at my chosen hospital. I’m on baby 2 so have less appointments than you will for a first but once you’re booked in your midwife should let you know when your next appointment is
