Stopped feeling baby at 16 weeks

Hi everyone! Really sorry if this has been answered before but I’ve got myself into a bit of a panic. I’ve been feeling baby for the last couple of weeks, and in the last week I’ve had a few movements a day, but I’m now on my third consecutive day of feeling nothing and I’m really starting to worry?!
I know it’s really early and that I’m lucky to have felt baby move at all so early on but now that I have and it’s so suddenly stopped I’m worrying something is wrong. Has anyone experienced this? My 16 week midwife app is this coming Friday when I’ll be 17 weeks exactly.

Call your maternity unit ASAP and get checked out

TheChineseChicken · 03/02/2018 13:20

As in now

CherieBabySpliffUp · 03/02/2018 13:20

I would ring 111 and ask for their advice (assuming you are in the UK)

carameldecaflatte · 03/02/2018 13:29

Hi Pix, Sorry you're having this worry.

Yes it's early but you don't have to wait for your appointment if you are worried, call the midwife team today and see what they can do.

Best wishes.

PeonyTruffle · 03/02/2018 13:35

Ring midwife. Now.

Shmithecat · 03/02/2018 13:38

Call your midwife or 111 BUT I just want to add - your baby is still pretty tiny, maybe about 5 inches long. It's quite possible that it's just moved somewhere you can't feel it. This happened to me a few times, all the way up to 28 weeks. I remember being in tears on my obstetricians office, desperately worried something was wrong. Hooked up to the scan machine - there was DS, rolling and kicking and hearybeating just as he should've been. I just couldn't feel it that day. Do you know how your placenta is lying?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 03/02/2018 13:39

Stop barking dramatic orders at her ffs.

OP, try not to panic, difficult I know..most women are only just starting to feel the first tiniest of flutters around 16-17 weeks, so it's quite possible they're still happening but maybe when you're asleep.

Give your midwife a ring to get yourself checked out, or go to ooh or the walk in at your hospital if it's nearer.

Hope everything is OK. Flowers

Ninjamilo · 03/02/2018 13:42

Give them a call but be aware that all trusts work differently, so you may not get the support you want 🙁

I called at 22/23 weeks as I felt nothing for 3 days after 4 weeks of movement and was told they wouldn't do anything until 28 weeks.

mollifly · 03/02/2018 13:46

Call midwife however they don't normally monitor until 28 weeks

PlugUgly1980 · 03/02/2018 13:48

Are you sure it wasn't wind you were feeling previously? 16 weeks seems very early to have been feeling movement...not impossible though. I was much closer to 25 weeks before I felt any regular movement. Ring the number on your notes if you're concerned.

pastabest · 03/02/2018 13:50

Wow some really dramatic posts from pp. I cou.d understand if the OP was 36 weeks, 26 weeks at a stretch but 16 weeks.... !!?

OP it's highly likely that it's just that the baby has moved and you can no longer feel the movements. 16 weeks is far too early to feel any kind of regular movements, if any movement at all and most hospitals won't be too worried about it until after 28 weeks.

Ring the midwife if you want, they may offer to try and fit you in earlier this week than Friday.

The sad fact is that at 16 weeks there is absolutely nothing anyone can do anyway if anything is wrong. But again it's much much much more likely that your baby has moved to a different position rather than anything horrible has happened.

Pix18 · 03/02/2018 13:52

I’ve just phoned the midwife unit who said it’s normal at this stage and that they wouldn’t even listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks so to not worry. They said baby could have turned or anything that could be stopping me from feeling it.

I really do appreciate all of your responses though. But Perfume thank you very much for that! I won’t deny the first few messages did send me into an even worse panic than I was already in! Xx

Your midwife or Day Unit might be happy to have a listen in for you so it’s worth ringing them but they won’t panic about it like some of the startling responses above. At 16 weeks your baby is tiny and could be in any number of positions which would change the way you feel movements.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 03/02/2018 13:53

Sorry crosspost!

Shaunieh95 · 03/02/2018 13:59

I had exactly the same issue at 17 weeks, I'd felt him move then all of a sudden nothing.

I called my midwife and she told me to come in and listened for his heart with a Doppler as this gestation is too early to be monitored on the machine.

Don't panic as it's common for this to happen so early on as baby is so small.

Glad you've managed to speak to your midwife.

Really not sure why previous posters decided to try and induce panic Hmm not helpful.

Pix18 · 03/02/2018 14:10

So glad that everything was well for you Shaunie and thank you, it’s very reassuring to hear other people have had similar experiences and it being perfectly normal! Although obviously sorry you had to experience that worry in the first place!
And pasta best thank you so much for your comments! I really was feeling like I’d been so stupid for not immediately phoning my midwife so comments like yours really made me feel a lot better.
Hopefully baby is just hidden in a funny place and I will feel him or her wiggling about again soon 🤗 xxx

Glad you have been reassured OP. Thanks

It very normal to worry about things when you are pregnant. Some of it may be attributed to pregnancy hornworms but a lot of it is because it's a worrying time!

I'm still worrying from time to time and my DC are all in their 20's and all happy and healthy 😂

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/02/2018 14:19

I agree it wasn't helpful but I think perhaps people didn't read properly and assumed OP was much further along, as it's so unusual to have started feeling regular movement when she did.

TheChineseChicken · 03/02/2018 14:21

Um... very sorry but I totally didn't read the OP properly and see you are only 16 weeks. All dramatic posts instructions retracted Blush

Pix18 · 03/02/2018 15:03

Haha no worries TheChineseChicken! Smile

BigBaboonBum · 03/02/2018 18:04

Confused as to why people are so panicky over this. I think she was lucky to feel movements before 16 weeks as it is and the baby is so small chances are they’re somewhere that’s just not as sensitive?? Call your midwife if you’re worried but this is really normal so early on... baby has a tonne of room!

BigBaboonBum · 03/02/2018 18:04

Sorry didn’t read the rest of the post!

AKP79 · 04/02/2018 11:09

I’m 17 weeks and having the exact same panic because I’ve suddenly stopped moving.

I also called the midwives who said the same. It’s hard not to stop worrying, but we need to trust in the midwives advice.

I also don’t feel remotely pregnant today, but it’s probably just my mind on overdrive following two MMCs.

Thinking of you OP and in this with you. Flowers

Addy2 · 04/02/2018 18:14

It's an awkward stage, isn't it? My understanding is that, even if there is a problem, nothing can be done except wait and see until the baby becomes old enough to survive being delivered early. Currently 21 weeks and have been in a similar boat a few times.
