How many tests?

Out of curiosity, after reading some other threads, I'm wondering how much people usually spend on tests for each suspected pregnancy.

I had long TTC journeys and very irregular cycles so did literally over hundred tests. I bought them in bulk from amazon working out about 15p each. They were always accurate but I supplemented with first response and clear blue digital when I thought I had a positive.

Really though things are different if it takes a long time TTC. I'm sure if I'd got pregnant early on it would have be n very different

I bought a pack of two tests from the supermarket for £3 before going away on honeymoon, which were both negative when I took them after my period didn't show (1 and 3 days late) and then when it still hadn't shown up at 5 days I had to pay about £6 for a clear blue test as we were still on honeymoon and it was positive! Personally although I understand and can see why people get emotionally looped into spending a small fortune with testing early and then still testing after they've got the initial positive I was determined not to.

Should clarify that I mean a small fortune per cycle, not overall as obviously it takes people varying amounts of time to conceive :)

I bought four tests for about £4 From my local co-op and did those a week after I was due AF

Passmethecakeplease · 03/02/2018 08:37

I did one own brand supermarket test one day and then a clearblue digital the next day as I was in so much (happy) disbelief that i wanted to see the actual words 'pregnant'. These were on day 2 and 3 of a missed period.

I bought a 20 pack of cheapy ones off Amazon as I thought it would take ages to conceive. But when one came up faint positive the first month I bought a digital one. It was definitely positive so that was the last test I bought.

PandaCat · 03/02/2018 08:46

I did two with my first, they were a two pack of first response but I can't remember the price of them. This time I did three, the first was a £1 test, then I got a cheapy two pack from ebay!

Justanotherzombie · 03/02/2018 08:54

1 test usually.

I'm far from regular but after I realised I hadn't had a period in over 10 weeks, I bought a pack of 2 tests from Poundland (still laughing/in denial about the possibility of it all at that point as we always used some form of protection). First came out positive and second was invalid as neither lines came up. Ran back to the store and bought 4 x £3 pregnancy test all of which came back positive. Sent partner picture of 5 positive pregnancy tests (didn't know what else to do) as he was at the football and he showed up at the door 10 minutes later covered in sweat from running all the way home the big daftie he is (as if I would no longer be pregnant by the time he finished his match and caught the bus back). Due April 15th 2018.

I had some internet cheapies in the house and one precious FRER. When we eventually got the positive on a FRER (cheapies didn't pick it up) after trying for 6 months I went to boots and bought a 6 FRER and a digital!

I did them over the next few days until I forced myself to stop the madness!

Footle · 03/02/2018 10:11

dkb, that's very sweet!

I bought 3 packs from poundland each with three tests in them so 9 in total for £3
For some reason always did two at a time, initially day AF was due and got nothing, then two days later with very very faint line, then the next morning with a stronger line. After that i did the left over three at various points in the first month when I couldn't quite believe it still!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 03/02/2018 13:55

I ‘borrowed’ one from the GP surgery I work at.

It was positive so that was that 😂

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/02/2018 14:17

Oh god, I don't want to think what I spent on tests during the 18 months and three miscarriages it took for me to get to my current pregnancy. I only tested once for each cycle where I wasn't pregnant (and I maintain that for me personally it was nicer to know that AF was coming than to have it as another horrible surprise) but I took way too many tests in each of the pregnancies after the first one. I'm always a bit jealous of the women who conceived really easily and their first one stuck, and who are then a bit superior/condescending about how they didn't get stressed about it and just went with the flow (not something that anyone on this thread has done, but you see it a lot on Mumsnet) - it's pretty bloody easy not to stress when everything's gone your way!

RosieCotton · 03/02/2018 14:35

With my first 2 pregnancies I didn't buy my own tests, I was very young and doctor told me. With number 3 I bought about 50 tests from amazon and ebay. He was a much longed for baby and I tested all of the time. This time round I've bought 3 digital and 3x3 of first response.

Eilasor · 03/02/2018 19:21

I only did one test with my first. With my second pregnancy I took 6 because for some reason the corner shop near to where I lived sold them in packs of 6. And it was a total shock as my first was 7 weeks old when I got my positive, so I took them all.

I didn't even think I was pregnant but ExH was convinced... and correct.

With my current pregnancy I took 3 tests - paid an extortionate amount for 2 of them in an airport chemist, the third was from Poundland and I sent it to DH in the post Grin.
