All terrain pram recommendations for dog walking?

Hi all,

First time and unexpected mother to be.

I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good off road prams which would be suitable for dog walking on unconventional surfaces? I am not sure if there is one out there that might actually get you up a mountain but happy to hear any suggestions as I've been googling and do't have a clue what I am looking for.

Many thanks

out n about nipper is brilliant, reclines, suitable from new born, inflatable wheels, and will go over any terrain.

I second the Out n about nipper. We go Dog walking in the Lakes a lot and it’s perfect. Used it from newborn

fitbitbore · 02/02/2018 18:36

Baby jogger is great we took our dogs and baby on loads of woodland trails.

Out n about nipper 360

Out n about nipper.

Used to have an Out n About Sport 15 years ago! I loved it, the fixed wheel was great for some serious terrain.

user1486076969 · 02/02/2018 18:41

...should have added we took it up several mountains Grin

Mountain buggy. Ours has gone to some very off the beaten track places. It's light enough that I could lift it over stiles with dd in it when she was small. It's so basic and rugged & easy to take apart for cleaning all the mud off. Been using since dd was new born as it reclines flat. Highly recommend!

FancyNewBeesly · 02/02/2018 18:56

I have twins and have the double nipper 360. Even as a double it's extremely easy to maneouvre and incredibly light, I would definitely use it if going off Road. I really dislike how hard it is to adjust the seats though.

Some friends have the Mountain Buggy Duet which is also great at steering but quite heavy - the single might be much lighter tkkhvh.

FancyNewBeesly · 02/02/2018 18:57

That last word was though, not a crazy acronym 😂

mindutopia · 02/02/2018 19:06

Personally I would get a wrap or ergonomic carrier. I think a buggy would be really difficult to maneuver unless dogs are never on a lead (which seems unlikely). We've almost always used a wrap for walks on rough terrain (and we don't have a dog). But if you do want a recommendation, we have a Baby Jogger Summit X3, which I love. We used it for 2 years with our first (after our first pushchair broke) and we'll probably get another 4 years out of it this time. We just use it as a forward facing buggy, but you can get a carry cot for it and car seat adapters as well.

Out n About nipper. I can't recommend it highly enough. Ok, it doesn't parent face but is super-light to steer, cheap-ish and all my friends who've had a push are amazed how easy it is. Been up mountains, beaches, muddy fields etc. It is fab.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 02/02/2018 19:47

We have the Uppababy Vista which has dealt with most terrains very nicely. It doesn’t have air wheels which means no punctures.

I’d definitely recommend the ergobaby 360 carrier though. I mainly used that when my DD was small, pushing and dog walking was a bit of a pita (but then my dog pulls on the lead, yours probably has manners!).

Loosemoose28 · 03/02/2018 10:02

Most of my friends baby wear. Only time they use prams is if OH is with them.

I have 2 biggish dogs and would not even entertain walking them with a pram. Even with OH.

annlee3817 · 03/02/2018 10:31

Out n about nipper, we took it on the white cliffs of Dover, and have been on loads of walks with it off road, it's light to push and has great sized wheels.you can get adaptors to put a carry cot on it, it's just sits over the main buggy seat.

Alex3101 · 03/02/2018 11:21

I'd use a wrap or carrier, we have several wraps and use a Tula carrier.
Also for big days out we have a Thule Sapling
https://www.thule.com/en-gb/gb/child-carrier-backpacks/child-carrier-backpacks/thule-sapling--tbb_210205
We bought a baby jogger X3 and I'll be honest it's fine for basically smooth surfaces we really liked it for around town but hardly ever used it. For anything bumpier it was not worth it, the wheels are too small.
We got a Thule glide in the end which we can run with as well and works so much better off road as it has bigger wheels.

I know a couple of people with the out and about nipper sport which they love.
We went to Wendy at RunningBuggies.com

Scrowy · 03/02/2018 11:26

Out and about nipper 360 has handled everything on our farm and some pretty dodgy rocky terrain except half a foot of snow.

If you get the carrycot attachment it is parent facing until they are old enough to sit up. Alternatively you can get the newborn cushion and lie them back into the main body of the seat looking out at the world.

Soubriquet · 03/02/2018 11:29

Yep out n about nipper

My almost 3 year old still sits in it when we dog walking and it's a dream to push

Phillipa12 · 03/02/2018 11:31

You need a fixed front wheel or the option to fix the front wheel, out n about 360, baby jogger summit x3, thule glide. Def check out wendy at running buggies.com. mountain buggies were good, the newer version is crap. I had a 2008 terrain model but would not touch the new one with a barge pole, so now have a summit x3 and a nipper.

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 03/02/2018 13:58

I’m seriously coveting a Thule Glide for off-road walks and running but unless I can find one in a huuuge sale or secondhand it’s not happening at £400+ so will probably settle for an Out n About Nipper Sport.

Hollymchollyface · 03/02/2018 14:31

We live in the mountains and use an ergobaby carrier which is brilliant for dog walking. Still use it daily now 16months on.
I have an offroad pram but rarely used it. Also, they are useless in the snow.

Summer1986 · 03/02/2018 18:53

OP I'm watching this thread with interest as I'm 19w with my first and need something that can handle all terrain walks inc coastal paths on hols and bridle paths, woodland etc for walks with my Labrador.
Anyone got any experience with icandy peach all terrain, bugaboo buffalo or mama's and pappas flip XT?

Veinarde · 03/02/2018 19:00

We bought Dutch made Mutsy Igo pram and extra pair of air tires for off-road.

pumpkinbump · 05/02/2018 14:52

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply. I am going to look into each one of these and make a good decision :)
