DS1 - mine went in the middle of the night in bed. I remember feeling excited as I was 6 days overdue. DS2 they went while walking along the hospital corridor in active labour (about 1.5 hrs before he was born). Both times were more of a trickle than a gush. It wasn’t like in the movies Grin

DenPerry · 01/02/2018 17:54

It happened the same for me both times: I was laying in bed early in the morning, reached over for something and they popped! Spent 24 hours leaking fluid until the levels got too low and had my planned c-sections brought forward. No contractions either time. Not sure why it happens that way around for me!
Only difference was the cord came out of my vagina the last time as I'd lost so much fluid Shock

Redisthemagicolour · 01/02/2018 17:54

My 3 were all different.

  1. Contractions first, then plug, waters later in hospital
  1. Trickling waters for 2 days before contractions
  1. Waters first - a pop in the night!
IAmALionTamer · 01/02/2018 17:55

Mine didn’t, both times

DenPerry · 01/02/2018 17:58

Forgot to add... mine were definitely gushy. I was leaving a trail around the flat as I got my stuff together, toddler following me slipping about on it and DP cleaning after me as fast as he could! Grin I walked into hospital with my legs covered and my shoes filled with fluid, leaving a trail through all the corridors. Thank god it was early and no-one around!

faitheloise · 01/02/2018 18:22

@DenPerry that made me laugh 😆 my toddler would be the same.

The three times my waters broke the contractions started immediately afterwards.

The last time the toddler was paddling in them shouting 'puddles!!'

They broke over the bed/carpet and sofa but they weren't ruined.

snowbellj · 01/02/2018 18:25

My 3 were different too

  1. Waters broke in bed at 38 wks at 3am with no warning!
  1. Labour started, waters broke, labour intensified - baby born in 2 hrs.
  1. Labour started, waters broke (minutes before my friend arrived at my house with her children and my eldest - all in time to see me socking wet and hobbling upstairs!!) - after this, labour intensified - baby born in 2 hrs.
coffeeforone · 01/02/2018 18:26

Mine broke whist I was at home. Never actually went into labour so had to be induced the next day, after 24 hours of continuous leaking waters, sitting around on those disposable maternity mats!!

coffeeforone · 01/02/2018 18:28

LOL so much at the toddlers slipping around in the puddles!

Bubble04 · 01/02/2018 18:30

My waters broke first for both of mine. I was asleep, waters broke, contraction started. Hoping it's the same this time as I'm a teacher and working till 39 weeks. Don't fancy waters breaking in front of the kids!!!

SequinsOnEverything · 01/02/2018 18:38

Not mine. First baby they broke my waters in hospital because I wasn't progressing. Second baby they broke 3 minutes before she was born.

ShowOfHands · 01/02/2018 18:42

First time I was sitting on the sofa at 38 weeks. Second time, 37 weeks and I was asleep in bed.

Eminybob · 01/02/2018 18:42

Mine broke when I got off the sofa to go to the loo. I felt a definite ping too.

My contractions started exactly an hour later.

It was quite unexpected as was a few weeks early.

faitheloise · 01/02/2018 18:44

Both my labours began with my waters breaking. Dd1 was at 6am on the bedroom floor (I felt them go and leaped out of bed.) dd2 was at 2am on the kitchen floor whilst I was waiting for the kettle to boil.

RainbowTortoise · 01/02/2018 18:46

DD1 waters broke at 8pm Tuesday, she was born 11.48am the following Thursday.

DD2 waters broke at 2am, she was born at 12.38pm the next day.

DD3 waters broke at 9pm, she was born at 8.41am the following day.

With all three I had no sign of any contractions until my waters went.

snowbellj · 01/02/2018 18:47

I was lucky. They were intense though. I had 2 & 3 at home, which were great experiences.
Your 2 yr old will be absolutely fine - try not to worry.

emily199027 · 01/02/2018 18:58

Mine went with an actual pop about 2 hours after I'd had a taste of some really hot chilli sauce. I'm still convinced that did it!
But I actually felt them pop, I'd just sat down to watch Corrie, stood up when I felt the pop and they were pouring down my legs.
First thing my husband said was go and sit on the toilet and don't get it on the carpets!! 😂😂 (we'd not long had new carpet on the stairs and bathroom!)
Contractions started a few hours later.

PotteringAlong · 01/02/2018 19:02

With DC 3 mine never broke - he was born completely membranes in tact.

Lovelydovey · 01/02/2018 19:47

Mine broke at 13/15 days before due date.", both times sat on the bed watching tv. It took 24/36 hours to go into proper labour and which point both times I was in hospital ready to be induced and both times 12 hours after contractions really started baby arrived.

Mummyh2016 · 01/02/2018 21:06

Mine went at around 9am (my pjs were a bit damp when I woke up, half an hour later when I stood up I had a gush all over the bed), went into the hospital for a sweep at 11.30am as I wasnt having contractions. Contractions started around 2pm, gave birth at 10.29 the following morning.

awankstainonhumanity · 01/02/2018 21:18

I woke up thinking I'd wet myself, stood up to go to the loo and gush they went!

thisismadness77 · 01/02/2018 21:25

Meeeeee

BigBaboonBum · 01/02/2018 21:26

First time they trickled over night and then later burst in hospital before labour began. Second time it was about 20 hours into labour and only when he was being delivered did they break - his head was trying to fit through and then they bust
