Can anyone recommend a good Waterproof mattress protector for a super king?

We have a super king bed. Does anyone have/use waterproof mattress protectors just incase waters break or there's any accidents before or once baby has arrived?

Any other tips to keep it fairly clean? Someone mentioned puppy pads but I don't think they'd hold that much water if waters were to break?

Silent night mattress protector is fine, also puppy pads are great.
Is this your first? I think you’re expecting a dam burst by the sounds of it, and it can be pretty dramatic but a bed lined with puppy pads is more than enough... a bed with just a mattress protector would be fine too. Chances are it won’t be like the movies though and your waters will trickle, or you’ll go into labour before they have chance to go, or if they do burst dramatically it won’t be anything like you’re expecting (especially if you aren’t stood up)

Ah brill, thanks! Ooo okay! Yes it's my first! Genuinely did imagine some sort of water explosion like in the film's!! Bit relieved now actually!! Thanks

Highly recommend the M&S ones. They don't make a funny rustling sound and come in standard and deep depths. Used them for DC1 and they've lasted a few years. Just purchased some more to protect from the arrival of DC2!

It's not just the waters to be mindful of. I SWEATED and generally leaked all kinds of fluids for ages after DC1 and it was good to know the mattress protector was there.

Think they're about £50 each for extra deep super king size and would recommend getting 2 if you can stretch to it. One on, one in the wash.

*waterproof version ofc. Should have said

Silent night do a good one but puppy pads can hold a surprising amount when doubled up.

If it's the proper old fashioned waterproof sheet then spray dettol (one in the metal can) works great or if the other style then antibacterial liquid in machine works well.

Following this thanks.

My waters went in hospital thankfully. If they had gone in bed my mattress would have been ruined! I heard a pop and they all gushed out in one go. I just stood there very impressed how much came out unsure of what to do. Now pregnant with dc2 so will be definitely investing in something to protect our mattress as we can't afford a new one!

SILENT25

Thats the code to get 25% off silent night mattress protectors from argos at the moment. Literally just brought one for my kingsize bed and it was only about 11 pounds with the code. Not sure if they do superking but check it out Smile

You could get a kingsize and see if it fits your superking? sheets often do

Thanks pottery Princess! I'll have a look!

Personally, I really would just get some bed mats and put under your sheets. If you plan to bedshare, then it would be worth looking in to a mattress protector, but just for having baby in bed with you for feeds, etc. and not sleeping full time, I honestly wouldn't bother.

My waters went in bed the first time around and I had no protection on the mattress at all and even then it was readily cleanable. My clothes absorbed a lot of it, the rest could be cleaned with some cleaner and left to dry. We still use the same mattress 5 years later and it's perfectly fine. This time around, I do have a maternity bed mat underneath the fitted sheet, just because I have loads of them (I'm having a home birth). We plan to bedshare (we bedshared with our dd for 2 years full-time) and still didn't have a mattress protector on. It was fine personally, but if you are nervous, then that might be a situation I would get one in. Hippie Chick is good (that's what we have on our dd's single bed now), but no idea if they do them in super king size. Otherwise, you really could get away with bed mats even with baby, especially if you don't plan to co-sleep for long.

Hippychick mattress protectors - breathable so no sweaty bums!

Couple of pvc shower curtains will be cheeper and do same job.

Redelephant18 · 02/02/2018 22:11

Thank you @Potteryprincess30! I have just ordered a mattress protector from Argos using that code.

Potteryprincess30 · 02/02/2018 22:56

@Redelephant18 your welcome! My partner just collected mine from argos today too.

I use my bed as a sofa/office/dinner table Smile, a lot at the moment so thought as it's where I am so much it was wise to protect my mattress. Mine has a memory foam topper so that especially won't take kindly to my waters breaking on it

RosieCotton · 02/02/2018 22:58

I just used the huggies bed mats. They haven't failed me yet :) they have sticky pads in them too so they don't move around.
