Worried I've caused baby to turn transverse!

Baby has been breech for ages and then turned in time for a growth scan yesterday at 32 weeks. I was really happy we were now head down!

Just now I had my feet up on the toilet seat bending over to paint toenails and I think the motion has caused her to move transverse! I can feel lots of activity and something hard on my right side. That or she's flipped breech or it could just be an arm

Can I turn her back? I'm worried about transverse risks most of all!

Hopefully she'll turn back in my sleep

I'm 35 weeks, my baby is head down and I feel her on my right side too, my midwife said her bums at the top, back is on my right hand side and her head is down - so I wouldn't worry too much :)

Thanks dippy egg. Thinking about it I guess I'd feel her on the other side too if transverse? She's definitely shifted though, but I guess could have gone from back to back or vice versa

I'm afraid I don't know what your chances of a spontaneous turn back are, but what you describe sounds very much like my transverse lie felt like. Very hard on one side.

I worked myself into an absolute paddy trying to make DS2 move. Acupuncture, toasting my little toes with stinky charcoal sticks (I was desperate), 'encouraging' him to turn with a bag of frozen peas, trying to sleep sitting up, doing wheelbarrows on the sofa. By the end I was a sleep deprived, tearstained wreck and it all achieved absolutely nothing. He was comfy.

And in the end, it wasn't a problem. It just meant hoofing it to the hospital at speed when my waters broke. The doctor in the delivery suite was unimpressed that I hadn't been offered an attempt at a turn before then and tried to turn him, but couldn't with my waters gone. A sunroof delivery followed and all was well.

The doctors might offer you a turn if baby is transverse and stays that way, but I didn't manage to do anything myself. Except fry my nerves.

32 weeks is early yet.
My last baby moved from transverse/oblique only at 37 weeks. I think the likelihood is that the baby will return to head down - lots of walking, sitting well etc.

My baby was transverse for the majority of the pregnancy. By week 30 he was cephalic. By week 32 he was oblique transverse until week 39. Then he went cephalic and did a 360° twist around and then back again while still cephalic. This was all during the time I was being monitored for reduced movements one evening.

Babies can change position right up until the end. Don't worry 😄

If (and it's a big if) your baby has turned, it is categorically not your fault. Babies are notoriously difficult to force into any given position and there is next to zero control over what position your baby adopts. You'll see tons of natural websites telling you poorly positioned babies are caused by women sitting at desks or on sofas all day, and recommending scrubbing floors on your hand and knees as a remedy. It amazes me that people don't cause this out for the sexist horse manure that it is - "women, get out of the office and back in the kitchen". That, and the fact there is almost zero evidence for anything to do with positioning. If it makes you feel better, sure try some of the things suggested like bouncing on a gym ball or whatever. But I cannot emphasise enough that you did not do anything to cause a poor position.

If she is indeed transverse and remains transverse, there is a possibility you may be eligible for attempting ECV to turn her (which has its own risks) or you can just go directly for a section. It's perfectly manageable and can be dealt with if she is.

Please don't worry about it. It is what it is, and you don't know yet what that is! My babies were always obediently cephalic and yet my bump would feel wildly different at various times during the pregnancy. You have no control over this situation, and you also have time on your side at 32 weeks. Just be aware that if there is the slightest suspicion of transverse or breech and your waters break, go immediately to hospital to minimise risk of cord prolapse. But if your waters broke at 32 weeks, you'd be heading for the hospital anyway.

Best wishes.
