That link does not mention peppermint tea. Maybe overdosing on essential oils, but not tea. I breastfed for years, two kids and really didn't avoid much at all..even most drugs were fine after consulting pharmacist.

Just sharing info Cotton, people can do what they like. I linked to show I didn’t just make it up randomly!

KalaLaka · 02/02/2018 09:36

I'd have a few peppermint teas as milk doesn't come in for several days when you've had a csection. Just colostrum til then.

Sorry but I think misinformation about what you can and can't do whilst feeding puts people off. Hence I have strong views on it. Lots of fluids is probably your main objective after op. My midwife gave me peppermint water knowing I was feeding. I'll trust the professionals

I took a couple of homemade cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels, some homemade flapjacks, and a couple of cans of G&T! Best post-caesarean picnic ever, I had one bagel in the recovery room as I hadn't eaten for six hours.

Another vote for smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, with chilled champagne!

I was given cheese and pickle sandwiches after mine (two weeks ago). The hospital food was ok - had some soup and fruit crumble and custard in the evening.

The only thing I took with me were fig rolls - not sure why but I enjoyed them.

Isotonic drinks, contain caffeine, taurine and most contain aspartame and acesulfame-k. Which isn't good for anyone. Fish, I hate fish eww.....
Im still breastfeeding DD2 (11 months old) so ill have a milk supply straight away.

Ah congratulations OP!

I packed all the usual 'fibre rich' foods, mint stuff for the wind, etc.

Then I didn't touch any of it and ate galaxy until it came out of my ears Grin

Isotonic drinks, contain caffeine, taurine

No they don’t. You are confusing isotonic sports drinks (like Lucozade Sport or Powerade) with high-caffeine energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster.

Isotonic sports drinks mostly contain water and sugar, and since the sugar tax many also contain sweeteners. Your choice if you want to avoid these but they don’t contain the stimulants of energy drinks.

JHKLHZHARH · 02/02/2018 21:46

I'm not my brother drinks powerade (the blue one) all the time, I went and read the bottle that's in his fridge lol. And as for sweeteners that's what aspartame and acesulfame-k are (apart from being things they use to kill rats)

Blue Powerade ingredients:

Ingredients: Water, Glucose, Citric Acid, Acidity Regulators (Sodium Citrate, Potassium Citrate), Fructose, Stabilisers (Acacia Gum, Glycerol Esters of Wood Rosins), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame-K), Flavourings, Colour (Brilliant Blue), Vitamin B6. Contains a source of Phenylalanine

Plenty of things that you might legitimately choose not to consume but no caffeine or stimulants.

If you read my post, I acknowledged that they contain sweeteners and that you might choose to avoid them.

Best of luck with your ELCS.

I was ravenous. Made DH smuggle in a McDonalds for me!

CottonSock KellyMom is a very respected breastfeeding website and I was referred to it by a La Leche League leader. I completely agree there’s scaremongering about what BF mothers can eat and drink, but I really don’t think my suggestion that peppermint might affect supply in early days rises to that charge.
