Weighing yourself in pregnancy?

Anyone weighing themselves regularly?

I was weighed at my booking appointment and then haven't been weighed since (28 weeks now).

In two minds whether or not to weigh myself out of sheer curiosity, and also in the vain hope I might cut down on the crisps and chocolate I've been eating far too much of if I do Grin

I’m also 28 weeks and been weighing myself regularly. Not because I care but because I like to keep track just for my own reference really. I did the same with DD1, like you say not for vanity but more out of curiosity! I’ve put on just shy of 2 stone so far. X

Noooooooooooooooooooo 😳🙈

BuzzKillington · 01/02/2018 00:06

I've always weighed myself every day, and did it when I was pregnant too.

Just habit really.

dippyeggandsoldiers · 01/02/2018 00:07

I haven't weighed myself because I didn't want to know! However my midwife weighed me yesterday and I've put on exactly a stone, I'm 35 weeks 😊

DeadDoorpost · 01/02/2018 00:07

I weighed myself every week but I had HG and was losing weight at a ridiculous speed so needed to keep an eye on it. Also helped me keep my mind at ease because I had to have a grown scan as baby was showing small a few times so keeping track of my weight and then talking to my midwife about the baby and his growth helped sort some things out.
Turned out my weight loss was throwing off the measurements.

Merryoldgoat · 01/02/2018 00:18

Yes because I'm obese and kept an eye on it. Have gained about a stone in total and I'm 37 weeks.

RosaBaby2 · 01/02/2018 07:12

I get weighed each week at slimming world. I was big to start with so it's helped keep things under control. Almost 27 weeks and have gained about 10lbs, was much worse with DC1

Smarshian · 01/02/2018 07:16

I'm 21 weeks and have weighed myself fairly regularly. I put on almost 5 stone with DD and didn't want to have so much to lose again this time. Currently gained about 9 pounds.

PandaCat · 01/02/2018 07:46

I'm 35 weeks, I haven't weighed myself once! I'm not that bothered. I didn't weigh myself in my first pregnancy either.

Passmethecakeplease · 01/02/2018 07:52

I weighed myself a little at the beginning but once I started getting a visible bump I stopped until I randomly weighed myself last week out of curiosity.

I'm still within the guidelines they say for weight gain during pregnancy and couldn't care less if I put on a few extra lbs during the course anyway tbh.

Lilonetwo · 01/02/2018 07:53

If you are curious then go for it. But if you think you might be uoset then don't.

I have weighed myself once a week out of curiosity. My scales track my weight (they are in pregnancy mode) and its been interesting to see the graph change!

pickle162 · 01/02/2018 07:54

I asked the midwife about this last time she said the reason they only weigh at booking appointment is that's what gives the initial risk status
I lost weight initially as was so poorly with hypermeresis but then when started putting it on I weight myself twice then when it got over a stone I've not been brave enough to again

RedBlackberries · 01/02/2018 08:00

I have other medical appointments which always start with height and weight so yes.

29 weeks and I've put on 13 pounds. I don't mind as last pregnancy I was too skinny and off eating so it's nice to look well and be enjoying my food more this time round. I got serious thighs and hips now which I like tbh Grin

magpiemay · 01/02/2018 08:20

I'm 23 weeks and I've put on almost 18lbs!!

I have read so much conflicting advise on how much weight gain is normal... I wasn't very big to begin with but I feel like I've put on quite a lot... mostly all on the bump though.

Does anyone know what is the 'normal/recommended' amount to gain in each trimester?

mindutopia · 01/02/2018 08:45

They don't normally weigh you again in pregnancy. In fact, with my first, they never weighed me at all, just asked my weight at booking. I weigh myself periodically just out of curiosity, but I'm not too concerned with it. I'm 38 weeks now and have gained just shy of 2 stone, which sounds about right to me.

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 08:53

Never did, couldn't see the numbers on the scale anyway because of the bump after a certain point.

I was weighed every month at prenatal visits (US). I though this was normal?

cottagecheesecrumpets · 01/02/2018 09:23

Thanks for the replies!

I'm honestly not sure if it would bother me. I've always been slim so I know it would feel strange seeing the highest number on the scale than I ever have, but it's all for a good cause Grin

I also don't really know what would be considered a healthy weight gain - although I would like to try and stay within that range. Getting weighed is the only way that I know I have.

Think I was weighed at booking in appt but can't mind what it was. I had lost some weight though due to hg. Not seen a midwife since my dating scan 🤔 due in at 28wks with midwife, currently 26 weeks. Might weigh myself then just to be nosey.

cottagecheesecrumpets · 01/02/2018 10:50

I've got my 28 week midwife appointment tomorrow, might see how I feel then and ask if I can hop on the scales Smile

I want to start to keep an eye on things, once a week at most. One thing though is that since I booked in quite late, I was actually about 10 weeks when I was weighed so it isn't a true 'pre pregnancy weight'. Should I assume I had already gained a few pounds...?

cottagecheesecrumpets · 01/02/2018 13:26

@itshappening I think I booked in at 8 weeks, but I know I was about 9 stone 7lbs a few weeks previously so I'm just working on that as being my pre-pregnancy weight Smile

I got weighed at 6 weeks and was 97kg.. as I am obese I have been weighed at every midwife appointment just to keep an eye on it. Currently 100kg at 34 weeks and my weight hasn't changed since 16 week check up. So only gained 3kg but baby is all healthy and measuring on the larger side. I gained close to 4 stone the last time but honestly haven't had a big appetite this time which is a novelty for me Lol!

If your not worried or if you think seeing the gain will make you worried then I wouldn't bother weighing yourself :)

cottagecheesecrumpets · 01/02/2018 14:05

@Sassy306 well done!

I honestly can't decide if it will bother me or not. I think if it turns out I've gained more than I'd hoped to by this point then if anything it will motivate me to clean up my diet for the next 12 weeks. I'm not too bad overall but my snacks need to stop, I consume way too much sugar!

Had my babies a long time ago, but then you had a check-up every month when you were weighed, took in a urine sample and had blood-pressure checked. Don't they do that anymore?
