Basically that! What brand/products do you recommend using? X

None. All a baby's skin needs is water. Don't use anything whatsoever on them unless, say, they actively have something in their hair that needs washed out.

The only thing I've used on my 3yo since birth is conditioner since his hair came in and he has fabulous soft clean hair and perfect (albeit very sensitive) skin. Baby bath products are unnecessary and can be harsh.

HandbagFan · 31/01/2018 09:52

I used water at first then after a few months used Johnson’s bath products and since about 15m started using Matey. Lots of people say all of these things are evil, but they clean off the spag bol and mud and at 23m DS has never had a skin issue.

Bobbiepin · 31/01/2018 09:57

We use baby aveeno on the recommendation of the midwife as DDs skin is quite dry. Don't bath her too regularly as it exasperates the issue but no problems otherwise.

MrWasheeWashee · 31/01/2018 10:03

Dove baby is nice and it smells great.

Thehairthebod · 31/01/2018 10:04

My kids have really sensitive skin and the only thing that seems to actually clean them without brining them out in a rash is the Child's Farm stuff.

wasMissD · 31/01/2018 10:09

Burts Bees is nice and lasts a long time.

SockQueen · 31/01/2018 11:06

There's no need to use anything but water at first - they don't really get sweaty or dirty like older children or adults do.

We use the Child's farm stuff now (DS is 16m) because we had some vouchers for it and liked it.

Soubriquet · 31/01/2018 11:09

Child's farm.

I love their products

Loosemoose28 · 31/01/2018 11:10

Water. Babies don't need soap.

silkpyjamasallday · 31/01/2018 11:26

We used nothing but water for the first 12 months, but now use child's farm to get some bubbles to make bath time more fun. Tiny babies really don't need any products on their skin, we found coconut oil was good for any dry patches.

InDubiousBattle · 31/01/2018 11:29

When mine were tiny I didn't use anything. From a few months I used Childs Farm, it's lovely.

NC1990 · 31/01/2018 11:46

DD is 12 weeks old and I don't use any bath products on her, just a bit of baby shampoo once or twice a week (she has a lot of hair!). I haven't felt the need to use anything else yet.

Bobbiepin · 31/01/2018 11:58

For those saying babies don't need soap, when DD has had a poo explosion or has been sick a lot and it gets in the folds around her neck, she really does need a bit of soap!

MinisWin · 31/01/2018 11:59

Second Burt's Bees. We didn't have any choice but to use baby shampoo as DD was born with a full mop of fairly long hair which used to get really grim if it wasn't washed for a few days. It's very gentle, alcohol and SLS free and smells amazing.

Mammatron · 31/01/2018 12:01

Just water for the first few months!

gryffen · 31/01/2018 12:07

Water for the first couple of weeks then we used Johnston's bathtime and when she hit a year it was Mr Matey. Never had a problem with her skin and when she had nappy rash when teething we used oatmeal in the bath to soothe instead.

At 3yrs old now she's still Mr Matey and the occasional lush bath bomb with coco butter in it.

Brittanyspears · 31/01/2018 12:21

Water at first. Then Burts Bees, smells divine. Now she is a toddler Childs Farm.

MrWasheeWashee · 31/01/2018 12:25

Why does it matter if babies don't "need" soap? It doesn't hurt them and you can't beat the smell of a post-bath baby washed with nice baby bath stuff. Echoing PP, a poo explosion certainly warrants a good soapy bath.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 31/01/2018 12:52

Why does it matter if babies don't "need" soap?

a) it's actively bad for sensitive newborn skin
b) it's a waste of money - you can spend it if you want but it's helpful to know you don't "have" to - and I've never found products necessary to wash stuff off. Not great for the environment either, if you care about that
c) once you start putting shampoo on their hair, it gets greasy without it and you have to carry on, so it can be helpful to know you probably don't need to start.

MrWasheeWashee · 31/01/2018 15:43

C) that seems a very bold claim considering I didn't have that issue with either of my babies.

I know you're not meant to use anything whilst they're newborns, but after that point it won't do them any harm whatsoever.

Katescurios · 31/01/2018 15:50

I didn't use anything till DD was about a year old then just the Johnsons natural range and just a tiny bit on a flannel, not loads of bubbles. Even now we only wash her hair once a week with a pea sized bit of Johnsons 2 in 1 and she has beautiful shiny bouncy blonde hair, never greasy or flat or dirty looking. She's 3 now.

LittleFox01 · 31/01/2018 18:49

Thank you for all your reply's! It's very handy to know being a first time mum 😊 will look into some of the products mentioned for when baby is older. X

We like Burts Bees and weleda

cheshiremama89 · 31/01/2018 19:35

I plan on using just water initially and then La Roche Posay baby range xx
