Choosing an antenatal unit

Hello

I have just been to see my GP who says he can refer me to any of 3 different maternity units for antenatal care (I live in South London). Was wondering how any of you have previously made / are currently making your choice?

Aside from location convenience between Home and work what else do you tend to go on?

For anyone potentially near me my choices are:
St. George's Tooting
Guys & St. Thomas'
Kings College

Thanks!

Is it your 1st pregnancy?

We must live in the same area! I chose Guys, as I know people who've had great experiences there.

I hear excellent things about St Thomas' :)

King's has a brand new Fetal Medicine Centre where they do all scans and have the Maternal Assessment Unit if you ever need that although routine antenatal midwife apps are still at Midwives House round the corner.

King's also has the leading fetal medicine doctor in the UK and because of that has a huge number of doctors working with him. All scans are done by clinical fellows rather than sonographers. King's also offers you the Harmony test for free if your risk factor comes out as 500:1 or higher.

I've heard good things about St. George's Tooting. They also apparently specialists in Twins and are where local hospitals transfer very sick babies.

Hi, I was at kings for my first two years ago and am there now (37 weeks). Gave birth in the Midwife led suite which is next to the main ward if there are any complications.

Always received results instantly and felt that all services were very joined up.
They do scan a lot as its a research hospital, which can sometimes feel excessive/worrying but it also means you get a lot of attention and first rate care. Their new fetal medicine building is also lovely. Would certainly recommend it.

I gave birth to my first in st Thomas which was amazing and now under kings college with my second which is great so far. And yes kings have a new fetal medicine building where they scan.
Both of them in my opinion and through experience are great.
