Telling Work!

I know this has been done time and time again, but my circumstances are a little different and I don't know what's best to do..

I've been at my place of work for 10 months now, and I interviewed for an (internal, different department) job back in November and was unsuccessful. The job is significantly more responsibility and a significant pay rise.

Last week, the interviewer (and new manager) called me and said another one of the same job has come up, and as it's within a certain time period they are able to offer it to next in line without re-interviewing, and did I want the job?! I was so shocked but over the moon. I had the official offer through from HR on Friday afternoon and have told my current manager today.

Spanner in the works is that yesterday I got my BFP! DH and I have only been trying since December, so weren't TTC when I had the interview in Nov. I'm obviously going to accept the job offer as it looks amazing, but what do you think is best to do re. telling my new manager?

I feel like I'm being a bit stealthy if I don't tell her until 12 weeks or whenever, and am conscious that I may need to notify them due to illness/appointments that may happen in the first trimester (I'm high risk so am having an early scan at 6 weeks). Part of me feels that I'll be relieved to just tell her asap, before I even start the job, but I've literally got no idea what's best and what will be best received by my new manager!

She does seem lovely and I think has kids of her own, so I'd imagine she'd be fine but I'm just cautious of being 'thanks for the job, by the way I'm pregnant and will be going on mat leave in 8 months!' Argh!! Help Confused

Just wait. Settle into the new job. Get to 12 weeks or even 20 and then say. They're not entitled to know until even later than that.

I would just accept the job offer and see what happens. You can cross the bridge of needing to tell them early if/when it comes to it. Perhaps see how you feel after the 6 week scan?

Congratulations!

I wouldn’t tell them now, as it’s likely that everytime they think of you in the role, they’ll think about you leaving for maternity leave. It will colour their plans for you. I’d start the job and tell them as late as possible (in legal limits etc). Congrats on both!! :)

Wait until 20 weeks to tell if you can

I wouldn't tell them straight away, wait and see how bad the sickness is. With my first I was able to hide it like a pro and only got nauseous if I was hungry. This time round I've been throwing up minimum 5 times a day since 4.5 weeks and feel like shit allll dayyyy long! Impossible to hide this time round!
Good luck and don't worry about work, I'm sure it will be fine!

Check in the company handbook when the latest date you need to tell them (15 weeks?) And remember you are protected under maternity rights for sickness and appointments.

I would wait til around 12 weeks then tell them soon after everything is alright as it's same company just different department.

Congratulations! Get in the job and get your paperwork through before anything is said. If you don’t need to tell early then don’t, but don’t just let them guess. As you were employed by them they’d need to replace you anyway. I have done this and wouldn’t consider not taking the job as I’d had miscarriages before, nothing is certain so you can’t turn down every job in case you might conceive.

Legally by the end of the 25th week of pregnancy. (15 weeks before the expected due date.)
