What helps with pelvic girdle pain?

Hi all. I've developed pretty severe PGP aka SPD... basically feels like being kicked in the pubic bone plus achy pain in all the nearby muscles and ligaments. Can't drive, can't walk more than a few steps. Went round mothercare yesterday getting last minute baby stuff and it was bloody agony.

I've only got 2 weeks to go til ELCS so seems no point taking up midwife's offer of a physio referral. Any advice for easing the epic fanny pain for the last couple of weeks??

So far just keeping legs together as much as possible!

I know it sees kind of opposite advice but keep moving! I was in agony after sitting down for too long or even getting up in the mornings. I was so stiff and sore! Try and keep moving every so often so you don't seize up. Good luck!

Chiropractor.

I find a hot water bottle helps a lot, and agree with the advice to try to keep moving. But not too much moving - I made the mistake of running 4 short errands in one day last week and couldn't walk for 36 hours afterwards. I've only got a week to go thankfully.

Sleep with a pillow between your knees - it helped me a lot.

Keep your knees together at all times!

Ask about crutches if it gets worse, they helped me and meant I couldn't overdo it too much as well.

I've read heat isn't helpful and that ice is better, but I found heat packs or hot water bottles (not too hot) helped with the pain so much more.

Last but not least - do not overdo things, no matter what. Rest as much as humanly possible. Get people to help you. I massively overdid things, tried to soldier on regardless and still have flare ups occasionally almost 13 years later as a result. I did have it from 18 weeks though.

I second chiropractor. I got huge relief after just one session with mine.

Alternate hot water bottle and ice x

My chiropractor saved my pregnancy!!

Contact the pgp network; lots of advice.

Personally a support belt, a good physio who knows Pilates and can adjust (like a chiropractor) helps me. I have to do the exercises regularly though.
