40+5 Reduced movement & lower back pain

Hi all,

I'm currently 40+5 & abit worried.

I usually feel baby moving in the mornings but not today, I have felt the slightest of movements but not a lot atall! & the movements I do feel are very light compared to his usual kicks and rolls. I'm also experiencing lower back pain.

I've been lying on my side now for 3 hours+ & been drinking water and ate some sweet food but the movement is still not great. In the last 4 hours I'd say he's moved between 5-10 times

Wwyd? Should I go the hospital or am I being paranoid because I have felt the odd movement?

Go to hospital now - it's not worth the risk and you are overdue in any case.

YoumeandlittleP · 28/01/2018 13:32

Isn't the hospital recommendation that ANY reduced movements should be treated seriously and checked? Can you ring your midwife?

ChocolateButton15 · 28/01/2018 13:35

Ring the maternity unit and see what they say. They might say to come in for monitoring.

Chocolatecake12 · 28/01/2018 13:35

Phone your labour ward. I’m sure they’ll get you to go in for a check. It’s always worth checking these things out.

doowapwap · 28/01/2018 13:35

You do need to ring the hospital and speak to a midwife, you need to get checked asap.

They will never tell you you're being silly or over reacting. They take this seriously and quite rightly so.

I'm sure everything is fine, but best to get checked

Gemxo · 28/01/2018 13:40

Yes I'll ring them now, the reasons I've asked is because my community midwife brushed me off last time this happened and kind of made me feel stupid because she felt 3 kicks while I was at my app and in her opinion that was fine.

Thanks for the advice

I hope everything is ok op, you're doing the right thing checking

pickle162 · 28/01/2018 13:54

Definitely phone the hospital sweetie, my little bean did this to me at 25weeks just didn't move for hours and I went and got checked out the hospital were lovely so don't think you are wasting their time or anything. He is probably in a slightly different position with not much room- at 40+5 they want to get little one out if less movements

YoumeandlittleP · 28/01/2018 18:41

Everything ok?

emvy · 28/01/2018 19:39

Just a little comment to say that I hope all was well?! And that I think it’s incredibly insensitive of your midwife to brush you off when you feel a change in movements - as others have said, it’s exactly what they encourage you to do - go in as soon as feel a change in movements and never wait and see if they move later on. I know how scary it is when baby moves differently and how much you mull it over and consider whether you’re overreacting and will be wasting people’s time so for a midwife to make you feel like you are is really unfair. When I went in for a change in movements at 26 weeks (where there obviously isn’t even a pattern of movement yet), they were so lovely and reassuring and said to go back whenever I was worried. Bypass the midwife and go straight to labour ward I say!

debbs77 · 28/01/2018 19:40

Fingers crossed all was well xx

Whooptydoo1 · 28/01/2018 19:42

It could be that ur baby has dropped hence the back pain and change in movements, he might just be on his way, def get everything checked out, hope ur both ok and he makes a healthy and happy appearance soon for you Flowers

Gemxo · 28/01/2018 19:48

Hi all,

Thanks for all the lovely messages. Baby & me are both fine, I went in for monitoring and baby finally started to move consistently!

Midwife said it was due to baby moving positions as he is getting himself ready to come! Hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer!! Nearly 6 days overdue now and feels like a lifetime until I meet him!

X

That’s great but if it happens again tomorrow morning you must go straight back In

YoumeandlittleP · 28/01/2018 21:39

Really happy to hear that you're both doing ok.
I also agree with above poster about how disappointing it is that you've been made to feel like you were wasting time. I ended up in hospital a few times in my last pregnancy and felt like I needed to apologise when it turned out that everything was fine and the midwives told me that it's important to check and that its their job. I still can't shake the feeling that I'm causing hassle sometimes though as I know how utterly over worked NHS staff already are.
Anyway, fingers crossed that you get to meet your baby soon!
