Sleepyhead duluxe and Snuzpod

I am confused as to whether it is ok to use these two together? As in the sleepyhead inside the snuzpod for a newborn? Should I take the snuzpod mattress out or put the sleepy head on top?

Or should I not put the sleepyhead inside the Snuz at all? I'm aware the lullaby Trust can't endorse using the sleepyhead inside a bedside crib but they don't seem to condone it either as it still has a flat surface for the newborn to sleep on.

Anyway, totally baffled so any advice would be amazing!

I'll be using my sleepyhead inside my tutti Bambini cozzi crib... pretty much the same thing! I'm keeping the mattress in.

AccrualIntentions · 27/01/2018 10:19

I'm using a Sleepyhead inside a Snuzpod with my 10 week old DD, she's slept in there for the past 4 weeks.

As far as I'm aware, the Lullaby Trust don't recommend the Sleepyhead for unsupervised sleeping at all - so I don't think it's the bedside crib aspect in particular. I didn't take out the mattress, the Snuzpod mattress is very firm so I didn't think it really made any difference.

DD sleeps really well in there, and I feel confident I'm not putting her at any more risk than she would be under being cared for by a sleep deprived mother! Prior to this she'd only sleep on my chest which is very much not Lullaby Trust approved either.

@AccrualIntentions yes this is kind of my thinking too.

I understand why there is such strict rules now but as my last daughter was born 8 years ago I am not up to date on all these new guidelines or whether they are absolutely a must, advisable, or can be taken with a pinch of common sense I guess.

@NickMyLipple I'm pretty keen on getting one, the snuzpod mattress is so thin and hard. I know this is suggested as best/safest for the baby but my other daughter slept so much better slightly more cocooned those first 6 months, solid 5/6 hour chunks.

@Potteryprincess it's really difficult. I tried to follow the guidance to the letter but she just would not sleep.

Potteryprincess30 · 27/01/2018 11:09

@AccrualIntentions my last slept cocooned inside her sheepskin in a carry cot which is against the rules also but was so snug and happy in there. I know this doesn't mean it was safe but it was a while back and I was very inexperienced with babies.

Personally I wouldn't use the sleepyhead at all. Sleep positioners and nests are unsafe due to risk of suffocation. I know the sleepyhead manufacturer insists it's safe but I wouldn't take the risk. Lullaby Trust regards only a firm, flat, waterproof mattress as safe.

ScotsLamb · 27/01/2018 13:15

I have my sleepyhead inside my snuzpod and have since she was 2 weeks old. The Midwife seen the set up and is happy with it.

Good luck with your new arrival!

Bear2014 · 27/01/2018 14:02

We used them both together and know several others who did too.

LalalalalaLand · 27/01/2018 15:27

We had the sleepyhead and a chicco next 2 me. We used it inside the crib on top of the crib mattress. Sometimes we brought the sleepyhead into the bed if DS was particularly unsettled and then i could slide the whole thing back into the crib once he was asleep. Snuzpod is very similar I believe just a bit shorter on length!

NC1990 · 27/01/2018 15:49

We use a Sleepyhead and Snuzpod, works fine for us. The Sleepyhead is very breathable and has been stringently tested hence the steep price, I have put my own face to it to check! When I was pregnant I said I wouldn't buy one, then DD was born and didn't sleep for a month so I relented.

If your baby point blank refuses to sleep on a firm mattress then you need to look for an alternative, and like a PP my daughter would only sleep on my chest which is arguably more dangerous. IME people who say they would never use one have either not had a baby or had a very good baby that slept 😄

Hippydippydoo · 27/01/2018 15:51

We used our sleepyhead inside our snuzpod, however it prevented us from zipping it shut so it was always open.

Potteryprincess30 · 27/01/2018 15:54

@Bear2014 that's good to know, thank you for the info Smile

@LalalalalaLand that was exactly my thinking for those night feeds, the sleepyhead definitely fits inside the snuz snugly so although I know its not 100% advised I would be happy to use it in this way from your experience and the fact a midwife has seen @ScotsLamb set up.

I however know that, although minute, there are risks with anything other then the completely 'regulation' set up specified by sids/nhs/lullaby trust. I am also aware there is risks also with a uncomfortable disgruntled baby/parent so I am personally happy to go ahead and get the sleepyhead for my snuz, and use it inside.

Thank you everyone and thank you @Bellamuerte too for your sensible advise, I appreciate the warning and safety elements you have brought up and you can know I am aware of these issues going forward with using this sleep nest.

All the best to everyone

@NC1990 I'm on board with this for sure. I will obviously see if she just sleeps on the mattress to but having it to use as well/in combination/ I am flexible as I too have been though the newborn life before and it is true how potentially dangerous it is for them to sleep on your chest. Your a woman after my own heart as the first thing I was going to do what face plant the thing!

@Hippydippydoo I'll make sure I only use it inside when its next to the bed, thank you for the info Smile

I used this set up with both of mine.

Beansprout30 · 27/01/2018 20:55

With my first dd I used the sleepyhead on the bed next to me, DH slept in spare room for first few months, will be doing the same again for baby number two

Potteryprincess30 · 27/01/2018 21:09

@Beansprout30 well my partner brought a sleepyhead back this evening so we are all set to use it. Don't think he would have been so keen to pick one up if he suspected his place in the bed could be replaced by it though Grin

I used both together my pfb was premature the sleepyhead was a godsend and meant that the baby could go into the snuzpod and still feel snug and secure. Congratulations and good luck!

welliments · 27/01/2018 22:05

Careful with putting the Sleepyhead inside a snuzpod.

I ended up with mould all over the bottom of the mattress and fabric bits of the cot.

If you google it, I wasn’t the only one...

Had a major apology and totally new cot supplied by snuzpod.
