31 weeks and slipped on the stairs

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and about an hour ago I slipped off a step walking downstairs, landing on my bum and middle of my back and really shaking myself up in the process.

I rang the midwife who said if baby is moving normally and I didn't hit my bump then not to worry but I still feel really anxious about having damaged the placenta without knowing it.

Baby seems to be kicking fine, he is usually quite active at this time of day anyway and bum and back where I landed feel ok now, just a bit sore.

I'm worried that I'll be going to sleep in a few hours and I generally don't feel him overnight and so wouldn't necessarily be aware if his movements changed.

Has anyone else had similar and their baby was OK? Feeling very anxious and fragile so would appreciate the reassurance.

Hope you're ok. Getting medical advice was sensible and I'm sure the midwives know what to look out for. As far as I know placenta damage would come from an abdominal injury, not falling on your back.
If you want to ring triage then you could get their advice again but generally no bleeding/pain/reduced movements means all is well.

Thanks girlwiththearabstrap. I was fine physically, just very shaken up and upset really and kicking myself for not being more careful. Baby's movements have been as normal since so I think he is fine in there too, thank goodness. Midwife called me this morning and she thought not to worry under the circumstances.

Losgann...you did the right thing seeking advice and checking movement etc. as you say you are more shaken up than anything.
Just to demonstrate how safe a baby can potentially be I'll tell you about something that happened to me.
I was involved in a road traffic accident when I was 38 weeks pregnant with dc1 (though no fault of our own). Our car was written off and my abdomen (along with other body parts was badly bruised - was wearing seat belt below the bump etc.). The air bag inflated and I was concussed amongst other things experiencing severe whiplash. I was kept in overnight and monitored because the consultant had seen the aftermath of the accident (and the state of my car)
Despite the above (and my worst fears) dc1 was born a day late and perfectly fine. Of course, I know, I was very lucky but it just demonstrates how well protected a baby can be. x

Gosh lavender that must have been so scary, poor you! Glad all was well with your baby though.

I am a very anxious first time mum and I do worry a lot about things like this so it's helpful to get some reassurance from other mums, thank you. And I will be extra careful from now on too.
