Pregnant- been approached about a new job, do I tell them now?

I am 6 weeks pregnant, so very early days. I've just been approached about a new job in education (private sector, non-teaching) and I am interested.

Do I tell them up front?

I wouldn't, no. If they are interested in you, they are interested and if you want it, I would pursue it. If you get it and you're further on, then have that conversation then. I would just be mindful of what changing jobs at this point would do to your maternity leave and pay.

My mat pay is crap anyway as 'it's not important for the company as most staff are too young to care'.....

I suppose I'd feel really guilty if I got the job and the said I was leaving them in the lurch for up to a year! I'd feel dishonest!

I would enquire as if you know you are pregnant and then don't tell them can they fire you for being dishonest at point of hire?

Seen it happen and the company won as they knew and your appointment time off stacks up.

If you know anyone else in that company then inquire about their policies

Gryffen OP wouldn’t be dishonest though unless asked outright if she is pregnant which they can’t do.

I’d say go for it if it’s what you want. They could hire someone else and then that person immediately falls pregnant so it’s a risk with hiring women of child bearing age. They’ve approached you and want you, a year is nothing if you end up there long term.

On a slightly more depressing note many people choose not to tell anyone until they’re over 12 weeks incase of miscarriage so you have no obligation to disclose your pregnancy (until 15 weeks before due date when you must make your employer aware).
