Hi,

I had mine on Monday, and it was about an hour long, the Midwife gave me a folder which had lots of dockets and questionnaires in for me to fill out.

She went through whats going to happen over the next 7-8 months, we chose where i’m going to have my first scan and where i want to give birth.

She did a blood test, urine test, blood pressure test, height, weight, carbon monoxide test, and then gave me the flu jab.

We then pencilled in our diaries around the 10week mark for her next visit which is a home visit to my house where we will go through more paperwork.

My DH came with me, but to be honest, it didnt involve him one bit and in hindsight didnt need to use a morning off work.

Hope this helps

Yes thank you. Am around 11 weeks so wasn't sure if i would have a scan with being a bit fair along. Think my partner will still wanna come just see what's happening and if am okay and that. I hope all goes well.

As above. Scan will normally be a separate appointment and you’ll get a letter with details.

Hi K9, it's not usually your midwife who performs your scan (Not here anyway). At my first appointment (the booking apppintment), they asked all the family/health history questions, and told me who my midwife will be.
At my first midwife appointment, after all the questions and discussions she then phoned the hospital/clinic where I would have my scan and made me an appointment.
Hope this helps, and congratulations!

In my trust your 1st appointment will be about 1 hour long, the midwife will take all of your details including your medical history and your family medical history (including mental health). You will also be asked about smoking, drinking, substance abuse. It's recommended all women are offered a co2 monitoring regardless of smoking status and if they are a smoker to be referred to a smoking cessation service. You will be provided with lots of information, recommendations and advice about pregnancy, discuss where you are planning to have your baby and you will have some bloods taken and a urine sample too.

You will discuss all the screening that is offered in pregnancy and This appointment will generate your scan appointment which you will then have between 12-13 weeks pregnant based upon your last period.

My partner came to my first appointment and my midwife was pleased that he did :) If you have the same midwife throughout you build quite a relationship so it can nice for everyone meet. She got a very good picture of what our relationship is like and also asked him a lot of health questions for my notes. He was also able to ask questions as we went along.

They may not book it in for you there and then.

Where I work we would send a referall to the scan department who would then organise your scan appointment, probably via phone and short notice for you as you are already 11 weeks.

Hi, I had my first midwife appointment this morning and it went exactly as HanSpan1 said: height, weight, blood pressure, blood test (3 tubes, I almost fainted!), urine sample, lots of questions about medical history, family medical history, etc. In my case they arranged an appointment to see and endocrinologist as I've got problems with my thyroid. All in all the appointment takes about an hour and you leave with your pregnancy book. I'm 9-2 today and asked her if she was able to check if baby is developing OK because I don't have any symptoms, but she said it'd be too early to hear the heart beat and just said that if I'm too anxious I can contact my GP to get a referral to the Early Pregnancy Unit. Hope everything goes well next Thursday! :)

Our areas procedure is to get bloods, urine, family history, blood pressure, weight, monoxide test, review of meds needed or currently taking, some meds means automatic consultant led care no choice.

I had mine last week at 10+4, my scan is 12+4 so thursday at 9am.
I'm consultant based due to major surgery last April which is fine with me.

My first appointment was a complete waste of time. Midwife reluctantly measured my height as I couldn’t do it at home. I then had to fill out all of my maternity notes such as family history etc in my own time. Literally was there for 15mins.
