Hello everyone

Okay, I know these won't be everyone's cup of tea but have to ask which do you prefer?

Alfred Finlay
Arthur Finlay

We already have an Oscar and Hugo. We live in France and my husband is French so we have to find something whihc works in either language. Any other suggestions grateful received else this poor child will be called Baby No 3 indefintely....

Thank you so much

NicMac

I love Arthur and Alfred. Guillaume has always been a secret fave of mine too!
Other suggestions:
Theo
Leo
Callan
George
Jude
Gabriel (I love this name!!)
Elliot

Oscar and Hugo are really great names!!

When is your baby due?

murcimari · 29/04/2007 17:57

Arthur Finlay sound much better together IMO. Also, Alfred or Alfie are way too popular here in the UK...not a fan of popular names I'm afraid .

Swizzler · 29/04/2007 18:09

Arthur a great name. Not keen on Alfred.

NicMac · 30/04/2007 06:45

Hello again
Thank you all, I am decided on Arthur Finlay now I think, it might be a bit grandad-ish in England but think it might well start to make a comeback, like Oscar has! The baby is due next week, I am scheduled to have a c-section on Thursday. I think he might be making an early bid for freedom though as I have started having some funny contractions. Thanks again for all your wonderful messages and suggestions, you are fab!

Arthur is lovely in French (my very french cat is called this!).

Whereabouts in France are you?

beckmo · 30/04/2007 09:34

Both nice -but I love the name Arthur.

Loads of people have suggested Stanley to us -I don't like it at all but I think I'm going to have to watch that DH doesn't sneak it on the form when registering the child.

flightattendant · 30/04/2007 09:54

I like Arthur, also my Great-Grandad's name. I don't like Alfred, Alfie is nice but anything sort of Norman-invasion puts me off!
(I had a boyfriend once who wanted to call our children - whom we never had - Hereward and Elfrida. He collected swords as well. )

CMac · 30/04/2007 12:33

Matthias? Could be shortened to Mat or Matty which are both commen in UK

largeginandtonic · 30/04/2007 12:34

Love the name Arthur, i would have def had it for this one (due for a c section in 12 days) but dh wont have it at all. I have a Hugo too!!! Think we are pretty much set on Beau Alexander now, it has been a massive struggle to get here though. I will have 5 boys and 1 girl. All my fave boy names are long gone!

Good luck with the section, hope your LO stays in their till then

heidle · 30/04/2007 13:00

arthur and alfred are my 2 ds's middle names!!!!!
i do wish we'd been brave enough to have them as first names though........

how about archie?

jdd0709 · 30/04/2007 15:38

I think arthur is great and sounds good in French!

NicMac · 02/05/2007 07:09

And I thought I was struggling with another boys name after 2! I can't imagine how hard it is after 5! Very many congratulations. I hope the c-section goes well. We live near Pau in the south-west of France, absolutely beautiful place and the people are lovely too. Anyway, I am feeling much happier now Baby X has a name, I loved all your suggestions. Thanks so much again and I will post when he has made his entrance. Good luck to you all
