Just had a message from sons school to say a child has been sent home with slapped cheek syndrome. I'm 6 weeks pregnant- what do I do (other than go into a huge meltdown and refer to dr google?!) please help wise mummys!

I'd suggest NOT using Dr Google, and perhaps speaking to your GP for advice.

Have tried, apparently I should ring back early next week for a telephone contact (!) and midwife closed at 1.

I lost my baby because of slapped cheek.
Go to your doctors asap for a blood test.

I know it's hard but try not to worry too much. I work in a school and my midwife advised that unless I had had 15 minutes face to face contact with the child (and exchanged bodu fluids) then my chances of catching it was extremely low. Hope you get some answers soon.

BlueMermaid96 · 29/01/2018 07:56

@Wiggleyfingers I didn't need to have contact with bodily fluids... It's even if they breathe on you... I was around my sibling for 5 minutes face to face when I contracted the virus

My daughter is a teacher and got notification of a child with this.Newly pregnant, she made a GP appointment and he ordered a blood test.As it turned out she was found to be immune as she had been in contact with it previously.First port of call GP and blood tests and take it from there.

thepatchworkcat · 29/01/2018 11:45

Midwife should be able to arrange a blood test for you so you can find out if you already have immunity - plenty of adults do so it might be ok. But definitely worth having the test.

Celtic1hair · 29/01/2018 12:09

Thanks everyone for your replys. Midwives and gp won't do a test unless I come into direct contact- despite me explaining there is a 3 week incubation etc. will just have to wait and hope!
