Varicose veins(down there!) & subsequent pregnancies?

In my last pregnancy I suffered awful vulval varicose veins from about 16wks.onwards.Previous 2 preg. didn't get them at all.Would love more family but the general opinion seems to be once you've had these ,they will return in any future pregnancies.
HaS anyone any experience re.this-i.e returned & were the same/much worse or didn't get them at all?
Also anybody recommend anything that they used for these, that really helped.
I did try (V.EXPENSIVE) preg. support thing spec. for V.varicosities in last pregnancy & it was better than nothing, but it was so uncomfortable.
Read on another thread that firm maternity tights would help,so maybe worth considering.Any advice appreciated.R.

I had these with my first pregnancy and again in my second and now again in my third. Sorry to say I think they definately get worse with each pregnancy.

The only advice my ob can give me is to chill a large/supportive sanitary towel in the freezer and attach it to underwear. Helps for about five minutes I suppose and only helps the sympton but not the cause. Found the tights (v expensive medical/prescription variety) did not support the vulval veins at all and at this time of year just make you very hot.

Just need to remember that they usually disappear within days of the birth.

I had them during my first pg, and have to say they never disappeared, but my 2nd pregnancy didn't make them any worse. In fact, although they were still there they didn't give me any pain at all 2nd time. I bought a Feme Pad in advance but never needed to use it. Since the birth they have been fine- don't let the worry put you off another pg rascals (easier said than done I know!)

Just seen this. I've got vulva varicose veins too.

Had them with my second, disapeared after the birth, more or less, then came baack worse with this one. I've had them from 12 weeks.

I tried the tights too but found them awkward to put on.

They hurt when I go for a wee or a poo and I do find holding a sanitary pad to them when I go to the loo helps.

My consultant said that resting with my feet up as much as I could helps, sitting down to wash up, iron etc, housework a bit at a time to avoid standing for long periods.

you have my sympathy!

mine were much worse with pg no 4 and ached/throbbed from very early on. midwife said only cure was not to get pg again
Didn't find anything that helped them tbh, although same midwife did also suggest tight swimming costume worn under clothes for support, but that does making going to the loo when a out a tad awkward.

had these first time round and now got them again. seemed to come a bit earlier this time but as i recall them went away straight after birth. tried wearing tights once but as not really a tights wearer i just snagged them putting them on and couldn't face wearing them this time of year now anyway. guess i just need to put feet up, change positions a bit more. sitting down to iron is a good tip too, don't know why i didn't do it last time round! best left alone i think as any pads etc would just annoy me.
