So I hadn't felt baby move very much at all for the best part of a few days. Today I felt absolutely zilch and my normally very bouncy little one was silent. Very out of the ordinary for him/her, so we were a little concerned. Thought it would be best to be safe and get in touch with my midwife.

I left a voicemail for my community midwife, who rang me back at 5pm (after her hours) to tell me to call the hospital. Rang the hospital, they told me to lie on my left side for 2 hours, drink a lot of cold water and eat something very sugary. If no joy, come in right away and they'd check baby.

Waited on my left side for almost 2 hours from 5:30pm. Nothing. Me and my partner start to discuss getting ready to head up to the hospital to check everything is okay. We're literally getting up to put our shoes on and......
Baby starts kicking Hmm at literally bang on 7:30pm, when we'd been told to head up to the hospital if nothing. Now they're still seriously kicking up a storm an hour later.

Honestly, what an absolute little sod lol!!!! Apparently they like to play tricks on us even before they're born! What are we going to be dealing with when they're actually here?! ConfusedGrin

Baby was having a snooze!!! Needs to be done so s/he is well-rested to raise merry hell after birth Wink

Hahaha clearly! Wink thought I was just being safe calling my midwife and was a bit surprised when she said to phone the hospital. I guess it had been a few days since I'd really felt them move much and nothing today at all. But it's just so typical they waited until 7:30pm to suddenly have a rave GrinBlush

Hehe you were lucky! They normally wait until you're at the hospital hooked up to monitors!

Seriously OP, glad all is well. Please don't hesitate to call your midwife or hospital if you feel something isn't right.

Please don't wait a few days. Contact your midwife or hospital as soon as you notice a change in pattern. I'm glad everything was ok but really... Don't wait.

Mine once started just as we parked outside the hospital, after a 40 minute drive and FOUR HOURS of trying to get her to move. Another time she kicked just as they put the monitor on - she actually kicked it OFF. And a third time she wasn't moving on the trace at all - they were really worried so got the doctor down to do a scan, at which point she started somersaulting and was kicking the cord repeatedly as the consultant was trying to measure the blood flow. She is a total pickle!

honeysucklejasmine · 23/01/2018 21:16

And a change can be less or more movements than usual, not just less.

I went to gp for this the other day. While I was in the waiting room I had a baby that didn’t stop banging my belly. They’re damm naughty Angry

Lj8893 · 23/01/2018 21:24

Happens 9 out of 10 times with reduced fetal movements!

Don't leave it a couple of days again though op. As soon as you feel movements are different, get in contact with the hospital.

StealthPolarBear · 23/01/2018 21:24

When ds was small he used to get ear infections. Pain and screaming :( I'd usually end up bundling him into the car to go to the hospital in the middle of tbe night. You could guarantee that as soon as I stopped the car in the car park the gunk would start, pressure released and he'd feel better (and be very sleepy)

eastlondoner · 23/01/2018 21:36

My daughter waited til I was at the hospital and on the monitor before deciding to somersault for the whole 40 minutes I was being monitored. Confused

Kittypillar · 23/01/2018 21:40

Babies are naughty little things, clearly! Definitely hear you all on the not waiting a few days though, that was silly of me in hindsight - it's ridiculous but as I'm 24 weeks, I didn't think they'd want to bring me in right away and to be fair, they did say 24 weeks is on the cusp of when they'd be concerned by movements varying. But will definitely be more proactive about getting advice quickly in the future.
