How do I know if my miscarriage is complete?

Just hoping someone who’s been through similar can enlighten me.
i had a scan 2 weeks ago (and have been aware from the start that my pregnancy wasn’t viable) but was told to wait 2 weeks to see if I would miscarrry naturally.
A couple of days after this scan I had some light brown spotting (which I’d experienced after an internal scan I had a week before this scan) so wasn’t worried. But then the blood turned thick and almost black. It seemed as if I was losing tiny pieces of tissue as well (sorry to be graphic) but it was hard to tell. I’d had some very slight cramping but again nothing bad.
I had an abortion 11 years ago at 6 weeks and took a pill. I experienced a lot of cramping which left me in tears so was expecting it to be the same. I also lost a lot of bright red blood.
I’m 9 weeks at the moment with this pregnancy.
Over the last week the blood did turn more red with some stringy bits but they don’t look like clots. The very minor cramps happen maybe every other day and then I lose abit more blood (red) and then it calms down for a day again. The blood I lose isn’t like a flow. It usually comes out when I go to the toilet.
Basically I’m asking If this could be an incomplete miscarriage as I don’t really feel like I’ve lost it all. I’ve got another scan tomorrow morning so don’t know if to expect them to not see anything or if they are likely too and will help me end the pregnancy.
Any help would be much appreciated

I am pretty sure they will be able to do some checks to determine where things are at (high degree of certainty). I hope the scan is in the morning; get you some answers soon. x

In a way I was a lucky, passed the entire sac +placenta after actual contractions and the urge to push. Bleeding quickly slowed down and cramping stopped. Make sure you attend the scan .

MagicalCreatures · 22/01/2018 22:25

Yes the scan is at 8am.
Thankyou for answering. I too had what seems like contractions before and then lost all of it in one go so that’s what I was expecting to happen. But obviously because it hasn’t, I was wondering if anyone else has had complete miscarriages in the way I’m having this one.
Also, I’m RH-negative so really concerned about it’s blood getting into mine etc as I’ve not had an injection this time round. They did say that I’d only need one if I needed help to end the pregnancy but I’m not so sure if it’s like this

I was advised less than 12 weeks then no jab needed. I am also rh -

I was fine after and period arrived 4 weeks later as usual.

MagicalCreatures · 22/01/2018 22:49

Ok that’s good. Thankyou.

My miscarriages have all been different, heavier and lighter than expected, with the lighter one at 3 weeks further gestation than the heavier one.

The scan will give you a clear picture.

Sorry you've are going through this xx

I had a scan to check everything was cleared after a missed miscarriage. They also checked my blood to see if hormone levels(?) were back to normal. This meant when I took a pregnancy test it was finally negatives after weeks or being positive

Hi
Thankyou all for your responses.
I had my scan this morning. The sac was still there but slightly lower as if it was heading towards the cervix but they said there’s no knowing how long it will take.
So I am having medical management.
I have chosen to have the pessary because I really don’t like the idea of having surgery because of the risks.
So at the moment I am at home waiting for them to work. I’m scared to death because if it’s anything like before, I know it’s going to hurt like hell.

FWIW after MM I found passing the sac relatively painless. It felt it kind of sitting on my cervix for half a day, then it came out while I was on the loo.

Oh nuts, sorry to hear this is being dragged out.
Do you have any suitable painkillers in?
Wish I could say something useful.

MagicalCreatures · 23/01/2018 20:05

Hi ragged
Yes they have me dihydrocodeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen.
I’m still only experiencing very minor cramps nearly 8 hours after the pessary’s were inserted. So it’s really dragging out. But they said it can take up to 72 hours.
Fingers crossed it’s over quickly as it has been dragged out for far too long already

Have you got a couple of hot water bottles? Easier said than done but try and get some sleep.
