Optimum foetal positioning

I'm 37 weeks and was told by my midwife at my 36 wk check that the baby is lying with its back to my right hand side and ideally should have its back against my front (ie a turn of 90 degrees). Otherwise labour could take longer and be more painful. Has anyone done optimum fetal positioning before and do they think it helped? (this involves sitting upright and leaning forwards with knees lower than hips, lying on left side, and going on all fours, to encourage the baby to turn inwards). Any feedback welcome please.

OFP is worth a try, and it cannot do any harm !

With my first pregnancy I was very disciplined and never reclined, was always in a good position and so was the baby, went on to have an easy normal birth. Second pregnancy felt rubbish and was much more inclined to just slob in a not very optimum position (with big bar of choc in hand when toddler asleep!), baby was always in right position and came out without any problems so I have gone from totally believing it helped to thinking maybe some people just have babies that go into the right position. It is worth a try anyway though because it is not going to cost you anything and a baby in the right position is less likely to go overdue as well as possibly being easier to get out.

Thanks everybody. You're right, I've nothing to lose - but sometimes I'd like to be able to put my feet up to rest my varicose veins!
