I’m an active person who regularly exercises three times a week (circuits, boxasize and body pump) and runs twice a week (5k each) ....... first pregnancy I carried on exercising and had a miscarriage- second pregnancy I didn’t do any exercising at all and that ended in miscarriage too. So is it safe or not? I really want to give this third pregnancy the best possible chance of viability xxx

I've been told if you are used to doing it you are fine to carry on.

I am still riding (horse), doing the associated work - trekking up muddy fields, pushing wheelbarrows, carrying feed. I was running but it's uncomfortable now so I've swapped to aqua zumba and swimming!

I think exercise in pregnancy is good. It keeps you healthy physically, and, mentally.

Sorry for your losses Flowers wishing you all the best this time!

Exercise that your body is used to is fine to carry on with. You don't have to suddenly swap to gentle walks and swimming. Exercise won't cause a miscarriage either. From experience, it's quite common to try and find a reason for it when in reality it's nothing that you've done.

As others have said, if your body is used to exercise, I see no reason to stop. One of the instructors at my gym is about 7 months pregnant, and still leads several classes a day. I can understand that if you're anxious you might want to discuss this with a gp/midwife, just to put your mind at rest?

It's perfectly safe to exercise if you are in good shape in pregnancy and it's very unlikely even if you aren't that pregnancy would cause a miscarriage unless you were doing something really foolish and dangerous. Miscarriage is unfortunately really common and sometimes they just happen, usually because something just genetically goes wrong in development. I was running and relatively active before I got pregnant with my first. I stopped running (too tired and nauseous!) shortly after I found out, but kept up walking the same distance usually 3-4 times a week. On the weekends I was doing 8-15 mile hikes into early 3rd trimester. No problems at all. With my 2nd pregnancy, I was really doing no exercise at all (I was too busy and tired) and I had a mc. With this pregnancy, I was walking and spinning before and carried on doing both until I felt I needed to change things. I'm still walking several times a week but stopped the spinning about 16 weeks pregnant because I was just too tired and busy. Again all perfectly fine. I'm 36 weeks now.

If you feel well, I would keep it up, but maybe decrease your intensity. Switch to something easier on your body and try not to worry about it. It's very unlikely the miscarriages have anything to do with your exercising, but I would listen to your body and go with what feels right.

Ladies thank you so much! I have had to odd tummy twinge at this point - I’m only around five weeks, I felt bloated all the time but the midwife just told me to take it easy but I WANT to exercise because it keeps my mind busy and generally makes me feel less stressed and anxious - I often run if I’m worrying about something because the mental and physical stimulation helps to put things in perspective so I’m going to carry on and go for that run this afternoon to try and clear my head I just listen to my body when it had a enough!

Sx

If you’re used to it and feeling well with the pregnancy then carry on, I was still doing a lot of running, yoga and mountain treks during early pregnancy, and still was able to walk a good mileage and do yoga right up til the day before labour :-) just listen to your body and scale back when it tells you to 🙂

Exercise can only be good for a healthy viable pregnancy - it increases blood flow all over your body. I'm really sorry for your losses, but it's very very very unlikely they had anything at all to do with exercise.

I worked out all through my first pregnancy and am doing the same this time and I can't recommend it enough - good for pregnancy fatigue, staying comfortable in later pregnancy because your muscles are strong, labour and recovery. If stuff feels bad/wrong you can stop it or reduce the intensity, but anything you were already doing you can keep doing.

I worked out on Monday and kept getting what felt like a stitch is that normal? X

I’m so sorry for All the questions I’m just terrified that every twinge is a sign of MC after the last two xx

I was exercising (zumba) 5/6 days a week and carried it on up until I was 8 months. I used to sit out for one song half way though, and wouldn't jump or run and only left once the music got so loud I felt sick.

As you have mc before speak to your gp about any recommendations. You might want to go easy and swim/walk for example

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 19/01/2018 14:41

That's fairly normal. Stuff in there is already stretching and rearranging a bit. Pulling, crampy type feelings are normal and to me always signified things were progressing.

Honestly, the truth is there is generally nothing that can be done to save a non-viable pregnancy and also nothing, short of surgery and powerful drugs, that can stop a healthy, viable pregnancy from continuing. Except in the rare cases when a woman has a structural or hormonal issue in her body which is obstructing a pregnancy, once you are pregnant the die is pretty much cast and it will succeed or not according to whether it's genetically viable.

rifaatsalemmd · 19/01/2018 14:51

Exercise during pregnancy is must even than normal life as during pregnancy you have already increased your diet and to balance your body according to diet you should do regular exercise.

It's not required to go gym as you can do simply do exercise at your home or in a park, just walk and some basic stretching exercises. Even going up and down the stairs would be beneficial to keep your self active.

Thanks Lady’s you’ve really put my mind at rest!!! Ive just done a 5k - feel great! A little crampy midway through so slowed to a walk and then picked up the pace again after five mins. Time will tell I guess but I feel far more relaxed than I have all week!!!!! So thank you all xxxxxx
