Where can I find bright and colourful but gender-neutral baby clothes?

...preferably without costing the earth.
I'm not planning to find out the sex of my baby but all the clothes out there seem to be pink or blue or white.
I just want a few nice bits and pieces for those first weeks but am struggling to find anything gender neutral that's not plain & boring.
TIA Smile

Boots mini club usually have some nice things in bright colours.

Dermymc · 18/01/2018 20:33

Buy 5 white ones and see how much stuff everyone else gets you.

Frugi is nice.

eurochick · 18/01/2018 20:33

Mamas and papas are usually good for this. Or Little Bird at Mothercare. And the Scandinavian brands.

Redrosebelle · 18/01/2018 20:33

Seconding boots, mothercare and also next!

mercurymaze · 18/01/2018 20:33

how about confuse people by putting your baby boy in pink etc.

ijustwannadance · 18/01/2018 20:33

Next do nice bright unisex stuff.

Justanewname · 18/01/2018 20:36

Frugi is having a sale at the moment but their stuff does come up quite big so definitely go for newborn and not 0-3. Maxomorra is also nice and bright. Sadly the nice bright stuff seems to be pretty expensive generally but frugi in particular seems to fit for ages while other brands are outgrown more quickly.

Hippydippydoo · 18/01/2018 20:36

H and m online, very reasonable, wash well, lots of gender neutral stuff. I hate my dd in pink and have managed to get loads of amazing stuff from there.

Wayfarersonbaby · 18/01/2018 20:37

Try Hema, H&M (sometimes), I used to find Baby Gap good but not sure what it's like at the moment. More expensive brands include Polarn o Pyret, Frugi and Boden but even mainstream places like Mothercare can have some surprisingly neutral stuff, though you do have to hunt through the more gendered stuff.

DoubleLottchen · 18/01/2018 20:38

Most shops will have a few bits - but if they only have a little bit of shelf space for a baby section then I found most of it will be pink/blue, so I would try massive places with a big baby section.

I like H&M, Mothercare, Sainsbury's, John Lewis, Frugi (expensive), Marks and Spencer, Boots...

Rockandrollwithit · 18/01/2018 20:38

I love Little Bird at Mothercare for this.

Lemontwist · 18/01/2018 20:38

@Dermymc this is the 3rd DC so not expecting many gifts. Unfortunately got rid of all but a handful of clothes from the other two.

@mercurymaze I have two DSs already so what few clothes are kept are on the boyish side so if I have a girl she'll be wearing all of those!

I only discovered recently that Boots do baby clothes, and they're really nice, and not too expensive! They have bright stuff that's neutral.

Mothercare have a good range too, and Next have some nice bits (Next have the full range, from ultra-pink-fluff, to ultra-blue-Dino-monster-truck, via bright-neutral and pale-neutral).

Lemontwist · 18/01/2018 20:40

Thanks for the recommendations everyone, I'll have a look Smile

Little Bird at Mothercare...and GAP. TKMaxx often has brill stuff too.

Isadora2007 · 18/01/2018 20:41

Definitely Scandi style stuff- frugi, maximorra, PoP, Toby tiger etc

Also little bird at Mothercare. 70s style but nice primary colour schemes etc.

Congratulations!

squishysquirmy · 18/01/2018 20:42

Mothercare did some bright, primary coloured baby grows etc when dd was a baby. She kept getting mistaken for a boy, but it wasn't something that bothered me too much (bemused me that all primary and secondary colours other than purple were considered male.)

Funnily enough, in many shops I found that a lot of the baby clothes which were fun and colourful were in the "baby boys" section whilst the "baby girls" clothes were predominantly wishy washy, insipid pink tones.

Then when dd became a toddler, all the fun, colourful clothes seemed to be in the "girls section", whilst the boys clothes had become drab sludgy browns and greens.

(Not that there's anything wrong with pale pink, or earthy greens/browns, but I prefer stronger colours.)

PointeShoesAndTutus · 18/01/2018 20:44

I'm looking for the same - we got a lot of mint green and grey stuff at Boots, some dark grey and navy stuff at H&M, some grey and white bits at Sainsbury's, and some creams and forest green bits at M&S.

There's not much out there against the sea of pink and blue, and the annoying thing is when something is perfectly neutral but they shove a bow or a flower or a ruffle on it to jazz it up.

If anyone spots any burgundy or turquoise bits I'd be keen to know where!

Colourful, gender neutral and not too expensive - all three in combination is very hard to find!

I like Frugi as it’s colourful but still find the clothes pretty gendered and it’s £££ (although there are sales and discounts).

Boots sometimes have some nice colourful and/or gender neutral things but not every time I’ve looked.

H&M has some nice bright colours and is good value.

Mothercare Little Bird is quite good too.

I also like Maxomorra as it’s good quality. We have a zip-up footless onesie from there that’s lasted for ages because it’s footless and the zip is so much easier than poppers.

BergamotMouse · 18/01/2018 20:50

Any Scandi brands. DUNS is nice, Maxomorra too. They're not cheap but I get them cheap off Facebook selling sites, if you keep them in good condition you can sell for the same price you pay for them.

Wayfarersonbaby · 18/01/2018 20:51

oh also M&S and Vertbaudet, both good but sizing on the small side.

Cooloncraze · 18/01/2018 20:53

Polarn O Pyret, Tootsa Macginty (all gender neutral), Smallable has some great clothes in the sale, Susie and Toto (they do separate genders but the baby boys clothes would work for girls ... lots of grey and neutral colours) ... lovely Italian clothes and they have a sale otherwise too pricey for me.

Cooloncraze · 18/01/2018 20:56

Also www.cambridgebaby.co.uk
Amazing woollen dungarees. Totally works unisex

bluechameleon · 18/01/2018 20:57

I buy mainly organic and Scandi brands second hand through Facebook groups. That way I get good quality, colourful clothes at around the price of high street clothes.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 18/01/2018 21:04

Jako-o. Pricey but they sometimes have good reductions in the sale. It tends to come up big to very big.
