Car seats and isofix

Hi

At what point in your pregnancy did you install the isofix and car seat in your car before baby arrived? I've heard so many stories of babies coming early but will feel a bit silly driving round for weeks with the isofix in. I'm 34 weeks at present.

Out of interest, if you're coming home in a taxi (central London and don't drive) then do you just hope for the best that you can do it?!

Honestly, the standard baby carrier seat e.g. a Maxi-cosi Cabriofix is dead easy to put in with a seatbelt. It just wraps around the seat and clicks in. You certainly can do it - it might take a few minutes of wrapping your head around first time but that doesn't matter.

I installed the base at 37 weeks. DD was breech so had to have a c section and I knew I wouldn't manage to do it safely post surgery.

I'd advise making a choice now to care less about what your friends think. You're likely to be inundated with well meaning advice when baby arrives and you're going to need to not give a damn that Penelope thinks you should leave baby to cry where Lucinda thinks baby should be never put down.

We never put anything in the car before our first was born. We equally won't do it this time until after he arrives. It's easy enough to figure out. It's rare that you have to do it in an emergency situation. I've had a home birth, so baby was born at home (but could have needed to drive in to hospital with him if there was a reason to transfer, in which case my dh would have just had to figure it out on the spot or we would have taken him in the ambulance with me). Otherwise, usually you have at least a day or two between birth and when you come home. My dh would have just done it then.

I put it in my car as soon as I bought it (33 weeks) simply because it was in the hall and I wanted it out of the way.
