Increased movements (19 weeks) ??? Anyone else experienced this?

Hi all

It seems this is a rare problem as I can hardly find anything about it at all, but wondered if the Mumsnet Oracle had any similar experiences. I've seen loads of stuff on reduced movement but not on increased movement...

I had my whooping cough vaccination on Monday and all afternoon the baby was moving and moving (we're talking 10 or more movements an hour for several hours). Given that I've really only just identified wind from movements and I was getting perhaps 4 movements a day, this has alarmed me. It's now Weds and the baby's movements have continued as they were up til the vaccine, but I'm a bit nervous about what happened there.

there are 2 things that might have individually contributed - I went for a coffee at lunchtime at the usual cafe (but I've had plenty of coffee before and never had this response) and the vaccine brought on a bit of a tum. I was awake at 4am that night with a gurgling tum and felt the need to have a bowl of cereal. That seemed to put the baby to sleep so maybe I hadn't digested enough calories during the day and it was upsetting the little nugget?!

Any similar experiences? Should I be worried?

Thanks x

Please call your midwife if you are worried. 19 weeks is quite early for a pattern to movements I think and baby's getting bigger so you will feel it move more.

Is this your first child? I don't see how the vaccine can have any affect on movements though.

Thanks @Moita - my midwives are impossible to get hold of unfortunately. But I had just literally had a scan in the morning which said all was okay. Yes this is my first child. Well, the vaccine gave me the runs (sorry for tmi), so lord knows what it did to the poor baby.

It's unlikely to be anything to do with the whooping cough jab. It's more likely the coffee.

I'm also 19 weeks and I've got a reasonably active baby (just like their older sister!) I wouldn't worry too much, I remember from my last pregnancy that it was around this time the movements really ramped up. Your maybe just more aware of it today because of your scan and the jab.

It's most probably just that the baby's movements are getting stronger! And the caffeine, of course!

Oh and I'm pretty sure you not eating doesn't really affect the baby; it just takes what it needs from your stores! Smile

My baby increased movements from about 19 weeks and like you I looked it up. I was reassured that the gigantic billions of data on the entire internet did not have anything indicating increased movements were a problem. I’m now 38 weeks and he still has some days where he moves about a heck of a lot for hours on end. Nothing remotely interesting or difficult has ever shown up on any of my appointments.

Thanks so much for all your answers - I feel very reassured on hearing your experiences. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancies ladies and I hope you can enjoy the birth :)
