I have fibroids. Was told there can be complications if baby presses on them and cuts off the blood supply, but it's rare and I'd know about it because the pain would be agonising. Usually they cause no problems other than making you measure large for dates.

Hi OP, my fibroids were only diagnosed when I was pregnant. I had one quite large one and the consultant obs said that they can affect you even getting pregnant. Mine was quite low and they were worried that it would obstruct my cervix and then I'd require a c section. They scanned me more regularly to check where they all were.

In the end I had a c section but not cos of the fibroids.

They can take up valuable space in the uterus so do need monitoring.

Hi Tilly, Can you please let me know little about "C-Section", how did they execute it?

I have fibroids. During my first pregnancy I had some red degeneration (google it) which was pretty hideous - I went to the hospital for monitoring and was then bed bound for a week and on painkillers. In terms of the birth, I had to have a late scan (around 36 weeks which is now pretty standard I think) to get signed off to deliver in the midwife unit. The only proviso was that I had a managed third stage, so I was given medication to deliver the placenta straight away. I didn’t end up going on the unit as I was induced on the labour ward, but it was nothing to do with the fibroids. Now 25 weeks into my second pregnancy and so far all good, no degeneration as yet!

I had 1 miscarriage, 1 premature birth & then another miscarriage. I was under 30, healthy bmi & healthy lifestyle. Nhs told me I was unlucky. I went privately (2nd miscarriage was a missed miscarriage & needed treatment that nhs messed up) & was told it wasn’t bad luck & something was wrong, in the treatment for MMC they found a fibroid. I was told depending on the type they can affect fertility because they affect the womb lining. Mine was irregular & thin in places. They can therefore cause miscarriages & early births. The nhs don’t agree with this but after having it removed, I had a healthy pregnancy with a baby who went to 40 weeks.
