Harmony test - would you recommend it?

Hello considering having a harmony test for both more reassurance about conditions but also to get an earlier indication on gender. Has anyone had this? Would you recommend it or not worth the money? Thank you :) xx

I have had it during both of my pregnancies. It gave us the reassurance we wanted.

brogueish · 16/01/2018 19:30

Yes, we had it because I'm 41 with our first (history of previous losses/dashed hopes) and we really wanted reassurance about edwards and patau before telling anyone. We chose to find out the sex too, so we've known from about 12 weeks. I'd recommend it for peace of mind if you're very worried, it's an expensive way to find out the sex though!

We had the NHS equivalent (basically the exact same
DNA analysis technique; Harmony is a brand name) which we still had to pay about £150 for iirc as we were assessed as low risk for Downs etc based on nucchal fold etc. Unfortunately our local NHS hospital don't tell you the gender with the test, which was a pity. The risks of Downs, Edwards and Patau all came back even lower than our original NHS assessment so for us it was worth doing. It's really not that much money for the extra peace of mind it gives you imo....I know not everyone will get good news but our view was if it was bad news, we'd want to know so we could make an informed decision based on the best information possible.

Yes, the similar to what Brogueish said. Happy that I did it.

SleepFreeZone · 16/01/2018 20:27

Yes. We had it with one pregnancy and it came back as low risk and DS2 was born perfect. Another pregnancy sadly ended in TFMR due to the Harmony picking up Edwards Syndrome and a CVS confirming it.

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/01/2018 20:41

I had it and was very reassured by it. I didn't think I would find the NHS 1in whatever risk factor very reassuring.

ijustwannadance · 16/01/2018 20:49

I paid £400 to have it done at 10 weeks so I would know before 12 weeks as I would've aborted. Nhs tests offerered locally wouldn't have happened until after 12w scan and weren't as acurate. Even then they would only offer amnio at around 20 weeks! Far too late.

I found out sex then too as part of results.

lampert · 16/01/2018 21:23

I had it just for the reassurance. It was £400 including a 10 week and 12 week scan and I don’t regret it at all. If you have any level of worry then it’s worth it to dispel those concerns. My nhs risk ratings were low but I wanted more reassurance which it has given me. Chose not to find out the sex though!

RubyBoots7 · 16/01/2018 23:24

Had it because of potential risk factors and results came back low risk. Didn't then bother with combined test then on medical advice (less accurate and NIPT would've been the recommended next step if combined had come back high risk anyway).

Like a pp, we wanted to be able to make a decision as early as possible if there was a high risk highlighted. If we were 21 and hadn't gone through rounds of IVF to get pregnant, no we wouldn't have shelled out for it before having a combined test

Bellamuerte · 17/01/2018 00:38

I had it for peace of mind because I was concerned that NHS testing for conditions wasn't accurate enough. I also found out gender but I wouldn't have bothered having the test just for that.

Onceuponatimethen · 17/01/2018 00:52

Yes because much older mum than usual so wanted to know risks and have tmr early if necessary. It’s a very good test

NameChangeCuddleBums · 17/01/2018 07:27

Yes definitely. Similar to everyone else it was great reassurance and great to know the sex and great to see a scan at 10 weeks. Like SunshineGirl82 I wouldn’t have found the NHS screening (1 in example) very reassuring either.
