Am 9-10 weeks pregnant and still haven't heard anything from the midwives about a 1st appointment or anything. Can anyone tell me how long it took them from going doctors to midwives? I went doctors 4th January

You can get the number from your gp surgery for the midwife and call her directly

BrutusMcDogface · 16/01/2018 13:59

Each time I've been pregnant, I've made my own midwife booking in appointment for 8 weeks! Best ring them! Mine have always been at the gp surgery with the community midwife.

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 16/01/2018 14:03

I completed a form online and then the Midwife sent a letter with a booking appointment date on it. Is there something similar in your area?

ClareB83 · 16/01/2018 14:14

I self referred to midwives online. Within about a week I got an appointment for when I was 8 weeks (which is more bed to 10 weeks).

You want to get it sorted so you get your scan sorted for 12 weeks as well.

hopingandprayingthistime · 16/01/2018 14:15

Where are you @K9pal7? I’m also 9 weeks and haven’t got my booking appointment until I am 12 weeks. I am in London. I rang the hospital to ask about this as all the online guidance says they need to see you by 10 weeks ideally. They just said sorry but they’re really struggling at the moment and don’t have the slots so will get me in when they can. I haven’t heard anything about scans or blood tests. I have therefore decided to pay privately at this stage (and realise I am very lucky to be able to do this) because I don’t want to risk not having all the right tests at the right times. It’s my first pregnancy and I am very nervous. The NHS is in a mess unfortunately.

ClareB83 · 16/01/2018 14:20

Even if the midwife can't see you until 12 weeks that's no reason they can't send you a scan appointment. You should chase them as it needs to be done between 11 weeks and 13+5.

Also not all private scans are equal. Some are just a pretty picture whereas the NHS scan is to date your pregnancy and (if you want it) to do downs testing. If it's twins they also need to establish what kind.

hopingandprayingthistime · 16/01/2018 14:24

Thanks @ClareB83. I am going to FMC. I am hoping the tests I can access there will be equal to or better than NHS.

ClareB83 · 16/01/2018 14:29

That's good then @hopingandprayingthistime. But I'd still kick up a fuss with NHS.

At my 20 week scan they needed to review all my previous scans to look at the placenta(s) and they couldn't have done that with the private scans as you usually only take the cute ones away with you, not the medically useful ones.

hopingandprayingthistime · 16/01/2018 14:43

I may still go for my 12 week scan with NHS if it ever comes through!

K9pal7 · 16/01/2018 16:48

Thank you I'll call them

I’m in the same situation but I’m 8-9 weeks so I’m waiting on it.

I registered with the midwife centre last week and was told that I’d get a phone call and an information package by this week. I haven’t had either. I haven’t seen/heard from anyone and I’m apparently not allowed to see my GP unless there’s a problem with the pregnancy.

I’m just guessing that I’m 8-9 weeks too (I believe my last period was on 18/11/17 but can’t really remember).

K9pal7 · 16/01/2018 21:03

I went to the doctors and see wrote down on paper approximately how many weeks i am to give to the reception and that i need a midwife appointment. They took my name, date of birth and contact number. She said ill get a call in a week. Nearly two weeks later and still waiting. I don't know if am being inpatient. My sister nearly got an appointment stright away at midwife after she went doctors 😞

In my trust you self refer to the midwifery team.

They probably don't need to see you till 10 weeks so don't panic yet.

Angharad07 · 16/01/2018 21:35

They did exactly the same with me. It’s frustrating feeling like you don’t know what’s going on!

K9pal7 · 16/01/2018 21:39

Yeah am around 10 weeks this week. So hopefully they week 🤞 just wanna know because of work as they can be funny about time off with appointments

By law they have to respect your antinatal appointments- don’t let them hassle you! X

K9pal7 · 17/01/2018 10:17

Thank you. Its because i haven't told anyone at work and don't want them to think am lying

I had the same. I went to the doctors at around 6 weeks and they said midwife is in Tuesdays, she will call me with an appointment. Didn't heat anything until 4 weeks later, a text message with the app. To be honest, I'm not happy with her. It's not what I expected at all but I don't know how I can change? My GP told me I have to stick with the community one....

K9pal7 · 17/01/2018 10:59

Yeah hopefully going to get answers today. Just phoned but said she was on phone to some. They took my number so hopefully gonna get a call soon. Hopefully can sort my appointment out. Sometimes it turns into more stress than needed i think x

I’ve finally managed to talk to a human (and not the robot answering machine). My appointment is on Feb 13th. Apparently I was lost on the system!
