Fed up and terrified of birthing huge baby

38.5 weeks. Baby is HUGE (estimated as 8.5lb and still growing). I'm the size of a bus (was sent for a scan because I measured above the 95th percentile and they were worried it was dangerous). I'm housebound as I can barely walk, I'm in constant pain and can't sleep, my stomach is stretched painfully tight and there are more ugly stretch marks every day.

I want this baby out before any more awful stretch marks appear! I'm terrified of what I'll look like if this goes on for much longer and terrified of how big the baby will get. I'm frightened that by 40 weeks I'll be pushing out a 10lb baby and will end up with serious tearing, pain and possibly lasting disability. And I'm frightened that I'm so big I will never look normal again. I'm afraid and beginning to feel angry and resentful about what this baby is doing to my body. Last night I told DH I hate the baby. I'm crying every day because I just want this pregnancy to be over.

Both straight forward 9lb11oz/9lb11.5oz babies and I used to be tiny before I gained weight! Especially with my first. I looked VERY unnatural! Lol

My 7.15.5 oz baby was a easier birth than my 6lb baby . They also estimated that my 6lb baby was well over 8lb they can get it so wrong

Don't worry. Me and one of my close friends just had our babies. I was induced because mine was too small (5lbs) and hers was measuring big (11lbs at 37 weeks).
Both of us had easy births with no pain relief and no stitches. Every birth is different but that just goes to show that you might be lucky whatever the size!

The girl next to me on the postnatal ward had an average sized baby and got a 4th degree tear ouch Sad

I worked with a woman who used to tell everyone about her two births - both over 10lbs with no tearing at all. The MW told her it was all down to the management of the birth and that as long as she did what she told her she'd be fine and she was.

I know this is anecdotal but my mum has said myself and my sister who were 9lb 5oz and 10lb 8oz were much better births than the 6lber. She didn't tear with any. I had a 3rd degree with my very over due but still only 7lb baby.

Your body will be able to do this, and if it gets too much there is so much available to help you. The stretch marks fade and in 2 years there will only be little silver lines that are only noticeable up close Thanks

Ah OP, it's just pregnancy hormones and perfectly natural worry. It won't be as bad as you think and the baby will make it all worthwhile.

But take the growth stuff with a pinch of salt. We were told DD was a monster and I was induced. She was 7lbs 4!

rebelrosie12 · 15/01/2018 21:08

I don't think that sounds overly big. Both mine were over 9lb and it was fine. No mention of big babies until they were out. I would try not to worry too much. Oh, and growth scans are notoriously innacurate. Massively sympathise with wanting baby out. The end part of pregnancy is exhausting.

Try not to worry. I was told I had a 10/11 lb baby she was 7lb14.
