Fleas and insect bites in pregnancy

I'm sure my cat doesn't have fleas at the moment, but I have a suspcious looking bite on my ankle and DD has a few red blotches over her too. They aren't itchy though, she says, although mine is a bit itchy but nothing too irritating.

How worried should I be about anything like flea or insect bites in pregnancy? I find myself bitten to shreds normally as insects, mozzies etc seem to love my blood, so I know if the damn cat does have fleas, I'll be looking forward to a week of lots of itchy bites!

Can flea bites transmit anything that's harmful in this country?

Have you flea treated the cat?

ReggaetonLente · 15/01/2018 17:52

I was wondering this too as I'm currently overseas and have a few mozzie bites, despite diligently using special all natural pregnancy safe repellent Hmm

No zika or malaria here thank god but I have been pondering the big red lumps on my legs and wondering if they could cause any harm in themselves.

Using the rational side of my brain, I don't think fleas could do you much harm - they must have been rife in homes until very recently, and still we have reproduced. But I know well that little voice of ... but what if?!?!? That seems to rear it's head in pregnancy!

The cat has been treated with Frontline in the last month and it still has one more part of the treatment to go, so it should be pretty resistant against te buggers.

I know that insect bites etc generally aren't that harmful in this country, but I am just a bit worried about them during pregnancy given that the immune system is usually a bit lowered.

Frontline apparently isn't effective any more so maybe try a vet treatment. Mine get advocate spot on once a month

Wolfiefan · 15/01/2018 18:01

Frontline is crap. You need advocate. See your vet.

Have someone treat your house with Indorex flea spray, just in case. You can get it from Amazon and it's far more effective than any other sprays.
